Manager, Engine Control System Avionics Verified today
Role Overview
You'll manage a team of engineers responsible for the complete delivery of the engine control subsystem, including controller hardware, software, instrumentation, harnessing and integration. As the single-threaded leader, you'll own both programmatic and technical aspects of project delivery for the Blue Origin Engines business unit.
Key Responsibilities
Subsystem Definition, Integration and Delivery
- Manage project scope with cost-effective execution while maintaining tight control of deliverables to meet program objectives
- Identify and manage technical, programmatic, scope, asset and safety risks and opportunities
- Coordinate with Enterprise functions including Operations and Supply Chain to drive subsystem cost and meet delivery objectives
- Track team execution and subsystem cost management throughout lifecycle
- Create framework to collect and monitor key project metrics and data
Technical Leadership
- Develop and oversee technical plan aligned to customer requirements (vehicle and engine) and internal design criteria
- Own the full lifecycle of assigned product scope from development through qualification, rate production and commercial flight operations
- Manage interdisciplinary engineering tasks for overall system success
- Ensure quality of engineering outputs and provide technical direction to the team
- Support requirement decomposition, systems engineering, technical design, analysis and verification/validation with strong interface alignment between customers and project teams
Functional Management
- Oversee full employee lifecycle including talent acquisition, development and performance management
- Foster continuous growth and learning environment with compliance to HR processes and policies
Minimum Qualifications
- Proven track record leading and managing teams to deliver complex engineering subsystems or products
- Minimum B.S. degree in Engineering or technical field, or equivalent demonstrated experience leading teams designing and developing complex engineered products
- 5+ years of experience in relevant engineering field with significant experience in avionics systems and/or control systems
- Project management experience
- Basic knowledge across relevant engineering disciplines including requirements negotiation, design, analysis, manufacturing, testing and vehicle integration
- Strong communication skills with ability to effectively communicate across all organizational levels
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with resource/budget management and reporting
- Experience with Agile, IMP-level scheduling, risk management, configuration management and requirements management processes
- Demonstrated ability to lead change and drive continuous improvement
- Familiarity with industry tools such as Simulink, Jules, Windchill, AMESIM or other physics-based modeling tools
- Hands-on experience with avionics and control subsystem development lifecycle
- Experience planning and executing integration and test programs for avionics and control subsystems
- Proven ability to develop and maintain product and subsystem roadmaps
Compensation and Benefits
Base pay range for WA applicants: $150,743.00 - $211,039.50. Other site ranges may differ.
