The Role
Blue Origin is hiring a Manufacturing Engineering Manager to lead a team of Manufacturing Engineers supporting production of the human-capable lunar vehicle. You will oversee manufacturing execution, translate engineering definition into work instructions, and manage build non-conformances for all lunar vehicles.
Location: Rocket Park, FL (onsite, Mon-Fri 8:00 AM-5:00 PM). Relocation available. Up to 10% travel for training and support.
Your Responsibilities
- Lead and mentor a team of Manufacturing Engineers, supporting professional development and career growth
- Establish team roles, responsibilities, and accountability; balance workflow to meet program milestones
- Own manufacturing engineering deliverables: process creation, acceptance and test plans, tooling and equipment definition, work instruction authoring
- Create and maintain Manufacturing Bill of Material (BOM) and product structure definition
- Lead Design for Manufacture & Assembly (DFMA) and Process Failure Mode & Effects Analysis (PFMEA) studies
- Coordinate with program managers, operations leaders, and Integrated Product Team (IPT) leads to meet design, build, and test objectives
- Drive continuous improvement using lean principles, root-cause analysis, and corrective/preventive actions
- Champion safety culture and mission assurance in all manufacturing processes
- Evaluate staffing needs and recruit top-performing manufacturing engineers
- Review and ensure compliance with company-wide processes and regulatory requirements
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Electrical, Aerospace, or related engineering field
- 5+ years of manufacturing, industrial, or process engineering experience
- Demonstrated commitment to mission assurance, quality, and attention to detail
- Ability to work onsite daily in a fast-paced, hands-on production environment
- Flexibility to change shifts and work extended hours as needed
Preferred Qualifications
- 2+ years directly leading engineers or technical teams through new product development into production, with demonstrated leadership and cross-functional collaboration skills
- Technical breadth across multiple hardware domains: system assembly, bonding/adhesive and fastener application, machining, composite fabrication, electrical and mechanical component integration
- Hands-on aerospace assembly, integration, and troubleshooting experience with expertise in fabrication processes (machining, welding, composites, mechanical/electrical assembly)
- Demonstrated expertise designing, building, and commissioning tooling and fixtures for manufacturing, assembly, and test
- Strong foundation in mechanical design and manufacturing fundamentals: GD&T, DFM/DFA, tolerance stack-ups, manufacturing process development
- Familiarity with aerospace quality and safety standards (AS9100, ISO 9001)
- Experience with Integrated Product Teams (IPTs), requirements generation, and Interface Control Models (ICMs)
- Proficiency with PLM/MRP systems (e.g., Teamcenter, Windchill), BOM management, product structure reconciliation
