About the role

This position is part of Blue Origin's Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Moon landers and related products. You will manage the Separation & Crew Mechanisms group, leading product-focused teams that develop, build, and test hardware critical to current and future lunar missions.

You will be accountable for leadership of your team, including requirements, technical performance, schedule, and budget. You will manage day-to-day efforts and career development of your engineers to deliver for customers.

Your responsibilities

  • Define, own, and control the subsystem technical baseline, performing technical work and providing technical leadership.
  • Define, own, and control the subsystem cost and schedule baseline, driving continuous improvement in a dynamic development environment.
  • Manage a team of engineers to specify, design, analyze, manufacture, integrate, test, and deliver hardware and software components that satisfy mission objectives while balancing cost, schedule, and risk.
  • Manage external procurements and internal hardware dependencies required to meet subsystem deliveries.
  • Manage direct reports' professional development including performance reviews, compensation, promotion management, and one-on-one development conversations.
  • Drive excellence in programmatic and project operations through data-driven management.

Minimum qualifications

  • Experience in leading and mentoring technical teams and functional groups, demonstrating strong leadership skills and commitment to employee development.
  • 8+ years of relevant experience in the full lifecycle development of aerospace structures and/or mechanisms.
  • Demonstrated experience in one or more of: requirement definition, design solution definition, implementation, integration, verification and validation, qualification, commissioning, and operation.
  • Resource management experience leading multidisciplinary development projects, including managing staffing, budget, and schedule.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Minimum of a B.S. degree in engineering or another technical field.

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience designing, building and testing separation and deployment mechanisms.
  • Experience designing, building and testing crew-interfacing mechanisms hardware.
  • Experience with verification, integration, and test of integrated subsystems or systems on a spacecraft.
  • Experience with space vehicle mission operations.
  • Experience managing suppliers and subcontracts.
  • Familiarity with agile project management.
  • Experience with critical path scheduling, IMP/IMS, risk management, requirements management and Cost Account Management such as EVM.
  • M.S. or Ph.D. degree in engineering or another technical field.

Compensation

Base pay range varies by location:

  • CA: $150,743 - $211,039.50
  • CO: $138,181 - $193,453.05
  • WA: $150,743 - $211,039.50

Other site ranges may differ. Compensation includes medical, dental, vision, life insurance, paid parental leave, disability coverage, 401(k) with up to 5% company match, education support, stock options, and up to 4 weeks paid time off plus 14 company-paid holidays.
