Manager - Thermal/Fluids Structural Analysis Verified today
The Role
You will lead a team of structural analysts responsible for analysis and critical review of Thermal/Fluids Core Components Products for the Blue Moon lunar lander program. This senior-level position combines management responsibility with significant technical leadership, requiring you to provide expertise, training, and oversight to your team while contributing directly to structural integrity methodology and technology advancement.
As part of the Lunar Permanence business unit's Human Landing System (HLS) Sustaining Lunar Development (SLD) program, your work will support the development of lunar transportation systems that return humans to the Moon and extend human presence beyond Earth.
Your Responsibilities
- Supply people, processes, and tools to meet project demands specified by Product team managers and program managers
- Negotiate Statements of Work with product managers and reconcile project needs with staff resources and capabilities
- Manage direct reports: career development, performance reviews, compensation and promotion management, and one-on-one development conversations
- Recruit and hire additional staff or secure contract labor when demand exceeds group capacity
- Ensure staff are properly trained in Blue Origin safety culture and technical competencies
- Equip the team with engineering tools, training, and access to relevant standards and technical resources
- Set and prioritize team goals in alignment with group and business unit objectives
- Develop, maintain, and implement plans for acquiring software, models, and analysis tools needed by the team
- Coordinate and integrate with similar functional teams and expertise across the company
- Build relationships with external stakeholders for benchmarking, recruiting, and collaboration
- Perform technical work where needed and provide technical leadership in Structural Integrity methodology, guidance, and oversight
- Facilitate solutions to issues encountered by team members and exemplify high standards of conduct
- Support future roadmap planning to advance technology and reduce costs
Minimum Qualifications
- B.S. degree in Mechanical or Aerospace engineering or equivalent
- 10+ years of demonstrated experience managing technical teams and/or leading functional groups, with responsibility for technical quality of work and career management of employees
- 10+ years of experience with static structural analysis, modal analysis, random vibration, Fatigue and Damage Tolerance
- Strong understanding of analysis fundamentals from first principles
- Experience as a Structural Integrity Lead, Delegate, or Analysis Lead
- History of developing innovative solutions with partially defined requirements and changing criteria
- Ability to be self-directed and balance multiple projects
- History of communicating status, design/analysis concepts, and technical results effectively
- History of demonstrating autonomous leadership
- Technical or management abilities recognized by the larger organization
- Familiarity with 3D CAD modeling programs (Creo preferred)
- Familiarity with FEA tools
- Familiarity with GD&T usage (ASME Y14.5)
- Familiarity with environmental testing including vibration, shock, thermal cycle, Pressure cycle, and damage matching
- Flexibility and openness to tackling varied assignments and learning new skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with recent versions of Creo, Windchill, ANSYS, Abaqus, Matlab, and Altair Hyperworks
- Experience with fatigue analysis and fracture mechanics
- Experience with aerospace industry standard analysis methods (Bruhn, Marks', Shigley, Steinberg, Engelmeier)
- Experience with environmental testing similar to SMC-S-016, DO-160, and/or MIL-STD-810 (random vibration, shock, thermal cycle, etc.)
Compensation
Base pay ranges vary by location:
- CA, WA, VA: $150,743 to $211,039.50
- CO: $138,181 to $193,453.05
- Other site ranges may differ
