About this role
This Manufacturing Engineer position is part of Blue Origin Operations, supporting the Huntsville Engine Factory. You will design and implement efficient manufacturing systems for rate production of BE-4 and BE-3U engines, ensure stringent quality control, and optimize supply chain logistics. The team focuses on continuously improving cost, increasing throughput, and reducing cycle time to lower the cost of access to space.
What you will do
- Contribute to design for manufacturability (DFM), design for assembly (DFA), and design for test (DFT) for space vehicles
- Translate engineering requirements into robust, repeatable manufacturing processes
- Collaborate with design engineering, quality assurance, supply chain, and production teams
- Develop and maintain manufacturing documentation, including work instructions, process flow diagrams, tool designs, and inspection plans
- Evaluate and implement new manufacturing technologies and methods such as precision machining, welding, brazing, additive manufacturing, and advanced assembly
- Support root cause analysis of process or product non-conformances and develop corrective actions
- Ensure all work aligns with quality and safety standards including AS9100 and ISO 9001
- Participate in process FMEAs, risk assessments, and validation of new production lines and equipment
- Apply AI technologies and traditional manufacturing engineering tools to optimize processes and improve first-time quality
Position details
- Location: Huntsville, AL
- Multiple positions and shifts available
- Shift B: Monday to Thursday, 5:00pm to 3:30am
- Shift C: Friday to Sunday, 5:00am to 5:30pm
- Shift D: Friday to Sunday, 5:00pm to 3:30am
- Relocation assistance available
Minimum qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Electrical, Aerospace Engineering, or other relevant field
- Manufacturing engineering experience: 3+ years (Level 2), 5+ years (Level 3), or 8+ years (Senior)
- 1+ years experience creating English work instructions
Preferred qualifications
- High-rate assembly line experience in aerospace or automotive
- Experience with machining, assembly, balancing rotating hardware, non-destructive test, or precision clean processes
- Working knowledge of GD&T and mechanical design fundamentals
- Tooling or fixture design and fabrication experience
- Bill-of-materials and BOM reconciliation experience
- Strong organizational and project management skills (Gantt charting, JIRA, MS Project, Confluence)
