About the role
This Manufacturing Engineer position is part of Blue Origin Operations, supporting the industrialization of lunar vehicles and systems across vehicle integration, structural assembly, mechanical systems, solar arrays, avionics, fluids, and thermal products.
Key responsibilities
- Support industrialization of new products including vehicle integration and test, structural assembly, mechanical systems, solar arrays, avionics, fluids, and thermal products
- Contribute to design for manufacturability (DFM), design for assembly (DFA), and design for test (DFT)
- Translate engineering requirements into robust, repeatable manufacturing processes
- Develop and maintain manufacturing documentation including work instructions, process flow diagrams, tool designs, and inspection plans
- Evaluate and implement new manufacturing technologies and methods such as composites, precision machining, additive manufacturing, and advanced assembly
- Support root cause analysis of process or product non-conformances and develop corrective actions
- Ensure all work aligns with AS9100 and ISO 9001 quality and safety standards
- Participate in process FMEAs, risk assessments, and validation of new production lines and equipment
- Identify and complete opportunities for efficiency gains and cost reduction
- Collaborate with design engineering, quality assurance, supply chain, and production teams
Minimum qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Electrical, or Aerospace Engineering from an accredited university (other relevant fields may apply)
- Manufacturing, industrial, or process engineering experience: 3+ years for Level II, 5+ years for Level III, or 8+ years for Senior
- 1+ years of experience creating English work instructions
- U.S. citizen, national, permanent resident, or lawfully admitted refugee or asylee
- Ability to work second shift with flexibility to move shifts as needed and work extended hours if required
Preferred qualifications
- Experience in high-rate assembly lines for aerospace or automotive
- Experience with specialty commodities or technologies such as multi-layer insulation (MLI), aluminum welding, solar arrays, fluids fabrication, harness fabrication, or composite fabrication
- Working knowledge of GD&T and mechanical design fundamentals
- Experience with bill-of-materials (BOM) reconciliation
- Prior manufacturing engineering experience in aerospace or automotive
- Knowledge of Lean manufacturing practices and principles
- Experience with AS9100 quality standards
