About the Role

Blue Origin Operations seeks a Manufacturing Engineer (Level II/III/Sr) to support industrialization of space vehicle production at our Space Coast, FL facility. You will design and implement efficient manufacturing systems, ensure quality control throughout production, and optimize processes for thermal systems, radiators, and integrated spacecraft hardware.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support industrialization of new products including solar arrays, integration and test, avionics, and structures
  • Contribute to design for manufacturability (DFM), design for assembly (DFA), and design for test (DFT)
  • Translate engineering requirements into robust, repeatable manufacturing processes
  • Develop and maintain manufacturing documentation: work instructions, process flow diagrams, tool designs, and inspection plans
  • Evaluate and implement new manufacturing technologies and methods (composites, precision machining, additive manufacturing, advanced assembly)
  • Support root cause analysis of process or product non-conformances; develop corrective actions
  • Ensure work aligns with quality and safety standards (AS9100, ISO 9001)
  • Participate in process FMEAs, risk assessments, and validation of new production lines
  • Identify efficiency gains and cost reduction opportunities
  • Gain expertise in at least one key specialty area (solar arrays, integration and test, build flow/sequencing, avionics, structures, thermal systems)
  • Collaborate with design engineering, quality assurance, supply chain, and production teams

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Electrical, or Aerospace Engineering from an accredited university
  • 3+ years experience in manufacturing, industrial, or process engineering role
  • 1+ years experience creating English work instructions
  • U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident, or lawfully admitted as refugee or granted asylum
  • Must be able to work second shift with flexibility to move shifts as needed

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in relevant engineering field
  • Lean Six Sigma Greenbelt Certification
  • Familiarity with AS9100 and ISO 9001 quality and safety standards
  • Manufacturing engineering experience in aerospace or high-reliability industries with primary expertise in thermal systems, radiators, multi-layer insulation (MLI), thermal coatings, and fluid transport systems
  • Proficient in CAD and FEA-based analysis software: Creo and ANSYS Workbench preferred; FEMAP, NASTRAN, NX Advanced Simulation, or ProE Simulate/Mechanica
  • Ability to perform detailed hand calculations, free body diagrams, and complex FEM/structural analysis
  • Strong expertise in DFM and DFA, including transition from development design to production
  • Working knowledge of GD&T, tolerance/stack-up analysis, FMEA, and common manufacturing processes (CNC machining, manual mills/lathes, welding, sheetmetal, lifting/rigging, inspection, assembly)
  • Hands-on experience with assembly and integration of aerospace vehicles and subsystems including mechanisms, tubing, harnesses, tanks, and fluid systems
  • Experience designing, building, and commissioning tooling and fixtures for manufacturing, assembly, and/or testing
  • Familiarity with advanced metrology (CMM, laser scanning) and manufacturing automation
  • Proficiency with PLM/PDM/MRP systems including Windchill and Teamcenter
  • Experience with Bill of Materials (BOM) and BOM reconciliation for complex mechanical assemblies
  • Familiarity with industry standards related to mechanisms/structural work (ASME BTH-1, ACI 318, JSC-65289, NASA SP-8077)
  • Ability to support requirements generation in Integrated Product Teams (IPT) and Interface Control Models (ICMs)
  • Hands-on experience in cleanroom environments (ISO 8 preferred)
