Manufacturing Engineer II – Lunar – A Shift – Crew Systems Verified today
About the Role
You will join Blue Origin Operations on the MK2 Crew Systems team, taking assigned hardware from concept through production readiness. This is hands-on, dev-to-production work where you design and implement efficient manufacturing systems, ensure quality control, and optimize supply chain logistics. You will collaborate with design and responsible engineers to carry products all the way to flight units.
Key Responsibilities
- Take an assigned crew-systems product from concept through production readiness, planning Production Readiness Reviews (PRRs) and assessing Manufacturing Readiness Levels (MRLs) and Production Readiness Levels (PRLs).
- Provide Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA) support, partnering with design engineers to influence designs early for producibility.
- Translate engineering requirements into robust, repeatable manufacturing processes.
- Develop and maintain manufacturing documentation, including work instructions, process flow diagrams, tool designs, and inspection plans.
- Support the build of development and flight units, resolving process and hardware issues on the floor and capturing lessons learned.
- Support root cause analysis of process or product non-conformances; develop and implement corrective actions that enhance reliability and performance.
- Participate in process FMEAs, risk assessments, and validation of new production lines and equipment.
- Ensure all work aligns with applicable quality and safety standards (AS9100, ISO 9001).
- Identify and integrate automation and digital tools into daily manufacturing operations.
- Lead cross-functional manufacturing engineering, coordinating across Design, Quality, Supply Chain, and Operations.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Electrical, or Aerospace Engineering (other relevant fields may apply) from an accredited university.
- 3 or more years of experience in a manufacturing, industrial, or process engineering role.
- 1 or more years of experience creating English work instructions.
- Demonstrated ability to proactively identify and resolve manufacturing risks and drive process improvements.
- Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience manufacturing crewed-spacecraft or human-rated hardware, or human-in-the-loop systems where equipment is used directly by people.
- Hands-on fabrication and assembly experience in aerospace applications, including taking hardware from development into production (NPI).
- Understanding of manufacturing readiness frameworks (MRLs, PRLs) and industry standards (AS6500 or similar).
- Proficiency with Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) and Manufacturing Execution System (MES) tools (e.g., Teamcenter, Windchill).
- Understanding of engineering fundamentals for mechanical design and manufacturing, including GD&T, and a foundation in DFM/DFA.
- Experience working with Bill-of-materials (BOM) and BOM reconciliation.
- Experience with AI/ML technologies, data analytics tools, or digital manufacturing platforms.
- Familiarity with Lean manufacturing, root-cause/corrective-action, and continuous improvement methodologies.
- Familiarity with quality and safety standards (AS9100, ISO 9001).
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with an emphasis on collaboration across teams, customers, and suppliers.
