Materials and Processes (M&P) Engineer Sr – Lunar Permanence Verified today
About the role
This position is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Origin's Blue Moon landers and related products. You will build sustainable lunar transport infrastructure by ensuring aerospace-grade EEE materials and processes safely and reliably support vehicle systems.
Responsibilities
- Provide broad support for aerospace EEE materials and processes: PCB and PWA, electronic component materials and finishes, soldering, plating, surface finishes, wire and cable, connectors, harnesses, conformal coating, staking, potting, adhesive bonding, cleaning, and contamination control.
- Deliver design engineering support to ensure EEE parts, materials, and processes meet vehicle system requirements.
- Execute characterization and qualification efforts for EEE materials and processes.
- Act as M&P signatory for review and release of engineering drawings for EEE parts and assemblies.
- Support internal and external M&P efforts: specification development, supplier qualification, First Article Inspection, material and process testing, and customer updates.
- Develop internal engineering and quality processes to standardize and accelerate material evaluation, implementation, and qualification.
- Work with cross-functional teams across the Lunar organization and other business units.
Required qualifications
- B.S. in Aerospace, Material Science, Electrical, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering or related discipline.
- 8 or more years of M&P Engineering experience supporting aerospace, space, defense, or high-reliability electronic hardware.
- Expertise in aerospace EEE components: PCB, PCBA, cable and wire harnesses, connectors, and associated electronic materials.
- Strong familiarity with aerospace EEE materials and processes requirements, IPC and NASA workmanship standards, characterization methods, and industry best practices.
- Direct experience with electronic component construction, materials, finishes, manufacturing processes, and material-related failure mechanisms.
- Direct experience with PCB/PWA fabrication and assembly, including soldering, plating and finishes, wire and cable, connectors and harnesses, conformal coating, staking, underfill, encapsulation, adhesive bonding, cleaning, and contamination control.
- Experience with ESD control, ionic contamination and cleanliness, corrosion prevention, lead-free electronics, tin whisker mitigation, solderability evaluation, and component refinishing.
- Experience reviewing and qualifying EEE materials and manufacturing processes for high-reliability electronic hardware.
