Mechanical Engineer II - Lunar Permanence, Avionics Packaging Verified today
About the Role
This position is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Moon landers and related products. You will support the creation of CAD models and design documentation for avionics equipment for lunar missions, working within a cross-disciplinary team of engineers, specialists, and technical designers.
What You Will Do
- Participate in the entire design cycle of flight and mission-critical avionics
- Create mechanical interface definitions, specifications, and control documents
- Design avionics enclosure solutions for performance and high reliability in harsh environments
- Collaborate with electrical engineering teams to incorporate printed circuit boards and interconnect systems, including thermal and structural analysis
- Create 3D CAD models, assemblies, part and assembly drawings, and technical documentation
- Support developmental trade studies and manage revisions through the product lifecycle
- Build and evaluate prototype assemblies; create assembly aids and test fixtures
- Review assembly instructions and support hardware builds
- Assist with procurement activities
- Communicate project status, progress, and schedule adherence
Minimum Qualifications
- B.S. degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering
- 2+ years of experience designing ruggedized electronics enclosures
- Experience with static structural, modal, random vibration, and thermal analysis
- Strong mechanical design and integration skills using 3D CAD software and FEA tools
- Experienced with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
- Familiar with ASME Y14.5 and applicable drafting standards
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with avionics, power regulators and distributors, batteries, optics, sensors, motor controllers, displays, or controls mechanical packaging
- Experience with recent versions of Creo, Windchill, Ansys
- Experience with aerospace industry standard structural analysis methods (Bruhn, Marks', Shigley, Steinberg, Roark's)
- Experience with environmental testing including vibration, shock, and thermal cycle
- Experience with 3D printed part fabrication
Compensation and Location
Base pay range: CO applicants $90,934.00 - $127,307.25; WA applicants $99,201.00 - $138,880.35. Other site ranges may differ.
Relocation provided. Travel expected up to 15% of the time.
