Mechanical Engineer/Test Engineer - Pneumatic and Hydraulic Systems Development Verified today
Role
Join Blue Origin's Advanced Concepts and Enterprise Engineering team to develop and maintain mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic test laboratories supporting spaceflight systems. Working with engineers and laboratory technicians, you will design test capabilities, execute complex qualification programs, and drive improvements in system performance.
Responsibilities
- Design, plan, fabricate, install and operate pneumatic and hydraulic test capabilities for fluid system components in launch vehicle applications
- Develop and execute test plans and procedures; perform data reduction and reviews
- Understand and troubleshoot fluid and instrumentation systems
- Perform root cause analyses, system hazard analyses, and failure investigations
- Plan and oversee fluid systems maintenance
- Design, procure, and install system components; manage vendors and subcontractors
- Review and approve critical test reports from internal and external laboratories
- Create company-level plans and policies for pneumatic and hydraulic system testing
- Identify cost savings and safety improvement opportunities
- Communicate status updates with internal and external customers
Required Qualifications
- B.S. in Mechanical Engineering
- 3 or more years direct experience in design, development, or operation of pneumatic and/or hydraulic systems in test or research/development facilities
- Direct experience testing complex fluid systems and components
- Working knowledge of nitrogen (gas and liquid cryogen), helium, and hydraulic fluids
- Experience with CAD, Windchill, Creo, Team Centered Engineering
- Experience writing technical procedures, standards, and specifications
- Understanding of safe lab practices, FOD/5S mitigation, and chemical hygiene
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work with reactive and hazardous chemicals
- Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted as a refugee or granted asylum
Desired Qualifications
- Registered Professional Engineer or desire/ability to become one
- Demonstrated technical expertise in test stand design, operations, and maintenance
- Experience with pressurized gas systems, cryogenics, and fluid systems
- Knowledge of instrumentation and controls
- Familiarity with ASME codes and local building standards
- Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
- Project management and team leadership skills
- Understanding of hazardous operations and design for system safety
- Experience with welded structure design
- Experience with civil engineering projects and facility planning
- Proficiency in LabView or MATLAB
Compensation and Location
Base pay range for Washington applicants: $99,201.00 to $138,880.35 annually. Other site ranges may differ. Position located in Greater Seattle Area.
