About the Role
Join the Mission Design and Ground Navigation team within the Mission Operations System IPT, part of Blue Origin's Lunar Permanence business unit. You will be a technical contributor to the Blue Moon program, designing sustainable infrastructure for crew and cargo transport from Earth to the lunar surface.
You will develop reference trajectories, perform ground navigation analysis, and support integrated vehicle trade studies. Your work will include dispersed trajectory analysis and off-nominal concept of operations development. You will collaborate across subsystems to design trajectories that meet full vehicle and mission requirements.
What You'll Do
- Optimize Earth-to-Moon trajectories
- Analyze dispersed trajectories and delta-v budgets
- Perform ground-based navigation and orbit determination analysis
- Conduct analyses and trades to validate mission requirements
- Present results at gated reviews
- Develop flight dynamics operational software
- Support flight operations during missions
Minimum Qualifications
- B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related field
- 4+ years of proven experience focused on trajectory analysis, flight dynamics, or mission design
- Strong fundamentals in orbital mechanics and astrodynamics
- Understanding of the mission design lifecycle from concept through operational flight
- Understanding of ground-based navigation and statistical orbit determination
- Applied experience in one or more mission design and trajectory optimization tools: Monte, Copernicus, EMTG, STK/ODT, FreeFlyer, or GMAT
- Applied experience in one or more programming languages: Julia, Python, C++, Rust, or MATLAB
- U.S. citizen, national, permanent resident (Green Card), or lawfully admitted as refugee or granted asylum
Preferred Qualifications
- M.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related field
- 7+ years of proven experience focused on trajectory analysis, flight dynamics, or mission design
- Applied experience in ground-based navigation and statistical orbit determination processes
- Applied experience in trajectory optimization
- Experience with Monte software package
- Experience performing spacecraft operations
- Experience with DevOps processes: configuration control, continuous development and deployment workflows, Agile methodologies, and software code review
- Experience with software development tools: Jira, git, Jenkins, Docker, Visual Studio, or VSCode
Compensation and Benefits
Base pay range for WA applicants: $130,706.00 - $182,987.70 (other site ranges may differ)
