About the Role

As a Mission Systems Engineer III in Blue Origin's In-Space Systems business unit, you will work within the Ground and Spaceflight Operations team in the Blue Ring business unit. You'll join a small team of mission systems engineers supporting ground development and spaceflight operations across the full system lifecycle.

You will identify, derive, and maintain mission systems requirements with full traceability, verification, and validation. You'll design ground system and data communications architectures that enable effective, labor-efficient real-time spacecraft and ground system operation. Your work directly impacts the safety and reliability of advanced spaceflight vehicles.

What You'll Do

  • Identify, derive, develop, and maintain mission systems requirements, including traceability and verification and validation approach.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including flight vehicle systems, ground software, flight control operators, and payload customers.
  • Define ground system and data communications architectures and designs for effective spacecraft and ground system operation.
  • Define and maintain ground element interface requirements and control documents.
  • Plan and perform mission system product update cycles, integration and test activities, and validation exercises.
  • Conduct testing of ground system functionality and measure performance.
  • Perform flight software to ground systems integration and test.
  • Perform analysis to ensure operability across the space-ground system and support improvements where justified.

Required Qualifications

  • B.S. in aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, physics or related technical field.
  • 5+ years of experience in one or more of the following areas: ground systems architecture in spaceflight operations, software development (particularly Python), spacecraft operations (command and control, mission planning, flight dynamics), or implementing CCSDS communications protocols and standards.
  • Experience in a complex system lifecycle including requirement definition, design solution definition, implementation, integration, verification, validation, qualification, and operations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment.
  • Active Top Secret / Sensitive Compartmented Information clearance required to start.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with requirements management and traceability, preferably using DOORS Next Generation.
  • Experience conducting end-to-end testing of large, complex systems.
  • Experience designing RF communications and developing link budgets.
  • Experience designing or operating spacecraft instruments and payloads.
  • Experience developing, deploying, and maintaining software in cloud computing environments such as AWS or Azure.
  • Experience with collaboration tools such as Confluence and JIRA.
  • Familiarity with version control, preferably Git.
  • Experience with configuration and product data management tools.

Compensation

Base pay range varies by location: VA applicants $130,706.00 to $182,987.70; CO applicants $119,814.00 to $167,738.55.
