MK1-Avionic Test Engineer III – Lunar Permanence Verified today
About the Role
This position is part of Blue Origin's Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Moon landers and related products. You will directly impact lunar exploration by designing and testing the avionic systems that enable safe crew and cargo transport from Earth to the lunar surface.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, build, and integrate electrical and avionics hardware, software, and interconnect solutions for avionic systems.
- Develop test plans, procedures, and scripts for standalone and integrated environments.
- Conduct verification and validation testing, both ad-hoc and formal.
- Perform data interpretation, assessment, and analysis of integrated electrical and avionics systems.
- Debug and troubleshoot hardware and software issues in laboratory environments.
- Design, develop, and implement lab test tools and software to automate testing and improve efficiency.
- Support integration activities including wiring, hardware installation, and test bench setup.
- Document test results and communicate risks, issues, and solutions to peers across technical disciplines.
- Participate in design and system reviews to provide feedback on integration and testability.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to integrate hardware simulation and fault injection solutions with real-time vehicle simulations.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, computer science, or related technical discipline.
- 5 or more years of hands-on experience with electronics or electrical/electromechanical systems in prototyping, design, integration, and/or test.
- Understanding of digital, analog, and mixed-signal components: CPUs, FPGAs, microcontrollers, ADCs, DACs, OpAmps, power supplies (LDOs, linear, DC/DC), MOSFETs, LVDS, SPI, I2C, RS422/232, Ethernet, and PCIe.
- Understanding of safety-critical systems development (aerospace, medical, or automotive).
- Experience integrating and testing vehicle systems.
- Experience developing electronic test equipment and troubleshooting equipment.
- Proficiency with standard electronic lab test and troubleshooting equipment.
- Practical skills: soldering, PCB rework, crimping, and harness/connector assembly.
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Willingness to work hands-on, independently and as part of a team, throughout product lifecycle phases.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in electrical engineering, aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, computer science, or related discipline.
- 8 or more years of relevant experience.
- Experience with large-scale verification of avionics on autonomous spaceflight systems.
- Experience supporting testbeds for spaceflight systems.
- Programming experience in C++ and/or Python; Simulink experience.
Employment Details
Base pay range for Washington applicants: $130,706.00 to $182,987.70 annually. Other site ranges may differ.
