MK1 Component Test Manager - Lunar Permanence Verified today
The Role
This position is within the Lunar Core Components Test team under the Lunar Permanence business unit. You will manage a team of Avionics and RF Component Test Engineers responsible for development, qualification, and acceptance testing of avionics and RF components for MK1 lunar landers. You will work with Design Responsible Engineers, Quality, Operations/Production, and other teams to deliver integrated test solutions from early development through qualification and production acceptance.
There is no standard day in this role. Your team may execute acceptance tests on flight hardware in the morning and develop qualification test plans for new avionics components in the afternoon.
Technical Leadership
- Provide technical leadership and hands-on support for development, qualification, and acceptance testing of avionics and RF components
- Guide the team in developing test plans, procedures, and requirements that meet developmental and production objectives
- Review and approve critical technical outputs including test plans, procedures, and verification reports
Program Execution
- Coordinate with internal customers to plan, schedule, and allocate resources for avionics component test campaigns
- Scope, assign, and track technical work to ensure team members have prioritized workloads and project milestones are delivered on time
- Identify, document, and mitigate technical and programmatic risks; escalate to program and business leadership when required
- Establish and maintain team metrics and project tracking frameworks to monitor execution health and inform decisions
Organizational Leadership
- Oversee the full employee lifecycle for Avionics and RF Component Test Engineers, including talent acquisition, onboarding, development planning, coaching, and performance management
- Coach direct reports on maximizing performance and professional development
- Drive a culture of safety in the lab; ensure personnel and visitors are properly trained with appropriate tools and equipment
- Coordinate and integrate with Design Responsible Engineers, Operations/Production, Quality, and contract manufacturers
- Build relationships with external stakeholders for benchmarking, recruiting, and collaboration
- Exemplify high standards of conduct for team members
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or closely related discipline
- 6 or more years of hands-on experience in development, qualification, or acceptance testing of complex electrical, avionics, or electromechanical systems
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and perform causal analysis on electrical and systems-level faults; drive corrective action into engineering products
- Proven ability to build, motivate, and retain a high-performing team of engineers in a collaborative, results-oriented culture
- Proven ability to foster a culture of safety, open communication, accountability, and continuous improvement in a technical or laboratory setting
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and perform component and system-level analysis
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to manage competing priorities and represent the team to technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum
Preferred Qualifications
- 1 or more years of people management experience of a team of 5 or more direct reports with responsibility for the full employee lifecycle
- Experience in flight hardware, aerospace test, or safety-critical laboratory environments
- Hands-on experience with avionics, RF, GNC, propulsion, or integrated vehicle systems
- Familiarity with component-level qualification and acceptance testing standards and environmental test methods (vibration, thermal vacuum, EMI/EMC)
- Familiarity with industry safety programs (Lock Out/Tag Out) and harness/wiring standards (IPC/WHMA-A-620, IPC-A-610, J-STD-001)
- Familiarity with Atlassian/Jira, Tableau, or Primavera P6 for task planning and tracking
- Demonstrated experience with or strong interest in leveraging AI tools and automation to enhance team productivity and streamline lab operations
Compensation and Benefits
Base pay range for Washington applicants: $150,743.00 to $211,039.50. Other site ranges may differ.
