Role Overview

This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Origin's Blue Moon landers. You will conduct thermal and fluids analysis to define the performance and operations within the MK1 Fluids subsystem and resolve technical challenges. The MK1 Lunar Lander christened "Endurance" will be the largest and most complex vehicle ever to land on the moon. The second MK1 will deliver NASA's VIPER rover to the lunar south pole.

You will work within the MK1 Fluids team supporting analysis efforts through the complete development lifecycle from design through build, test, and integration. Typical tasks include capturing system inputs, validating models based on vehicle and component test data, constructing and vetting analysis models, performing system level trade studies, documenting results, and presenting results to stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Generate and present design review and trade study content for future serial numbers to subsystem and vehicle partners
  • Support development of new or modification of existing thermo-fluid analysis models to represent vehicle configuration, latest interface conditions, and behaviors
  • Post process analysis results to draw engineering conclusions from output data
  • Author and publish analysis reports in Windchill to support engineering decision making

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering
  • 3+ years of relevant thermal and fluids analysis experience
  • Experience with thermo-fluids 0D-1D modeling using Thermal Desktop Sinda/Fluint
  • Understanding of Fluid Mechanics, Heat Transfer, and Thermodynamics
  • Hands-on experience with first-order and Excel-level fluids calculations
  • Proven track record generating analysis results to support technical trades
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced engineering degree
  • Prior spacecraft fluid systems experience
  • Hydrogen and oxygen systems background
  • Experience anchoring fluid analysis models to test data
  • Process automation scripting skills (VBA, MATLAB, Python, FORTRAN)
  • Experience utilizing Jira and Windchill
  • Experience with modeling propulsion, gaseous, and cryogenic fluids management
  • Experience modeling fluids and propulsion components including solenoid valves, directional valves, manifolds, regulators, pumps, thrusters, feedlines, pressure vessels, and instrumentation
