About the Role
As a Fluids Systems Engineer II, you will work at significant technical depth on the Mk1 Lunar Lander's fluids and propulsion systems. The Mk1, christened "Endurance," will be the largest and most complex vehicle ever to land on the Moon. Your second Mk1 will deliver NASA's VIPER rover to the lunar south pole.
You are part of the Fluids and Propulsion Integrated Product Team (IPT) within Blue Origin's Lunar Permanence business unit, building sustainable infrastructure for crew and cargo transport to the lunar surface.
Responsibilities
- Work at significant technical depth on complex fluids subsystems with some oversight within the Fluids and Propulsion IPT
- Own subsystem level documentation and analyses, incorporating verification data as it becomes available
- Ensure timely updates and communication of subsystem level architecture diagrams and schematics
- Understand and apply systems engineering fundamentals across the full development cycle: concept, requirements, design, analysis, validation, integration, safety, configuration management, verification, and test
- Integrate between fluids and propulsion subsystems and overall vehicle-level design, analysis, software, and operations
- Support the development and execution of component and subsystem tests
- Lead trade studies, component design and integration tasks, first-order analysis, and test support activities
Minimum Qualifications
- B.S. in Aerospace, Mechanical, Physics, Systems Engineering, or related technical subject area
- 3 or more years of proven experience in fluids, propulsion, or aerospace systems
- Experience with fluid and gas components including solenoid valves, directional valves, manifolds, regulators, pumps, pressure vessels, and instrumentation
- Experience with systems engineering principles
- Ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
- Excellent verbal, written, and graphical communication skills
- Ability to earn trust and maintain positive and professional relationships
- Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced Engineering degree
- Experience driving the verification and validation of component or subsystem level requirements
- Experience supporting projects through the full development cycle
- Experience supporting trade studies to drive design improvements into fluids and propulsion architecture
- Exposure to fluid components and instrumentation through Acceptance and Qualification test campaigns
- Spacecraft, space vehicle, or launch vehicle fluid systems experience
- Experience with Hydrogen and Oxygen systems
- Experience using Jira and Windchill
Compensation
Base pay range varies by location: CO applicants $90,934.00 to $127,307.25; WA applicants $99,201.00 to $138,880.35. Other site ranges may differ.
