About this role
This position is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Moon landers. You'll join the team building sustainable infrastructure for crew and cargo transport from Earth to the lunar surface.
The MK1 Lunar Lander, christened "Endurance," is the largest and most complex vehicle ever to land on the moon. Your work will contribute to this mission and future deployments, including NASA's VIPER rover delivery and Lunar Terrain Vehicle missions.
What you'll do
- Prepare design layouts and create detail part and assembly drawings using CAD and Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) tools
- Review engineering drawings and designs to ensure alignment with specifications and standards
- Support engineering teams with mechanical layout, detail design, and drawing for structural components and assemblies
- Apply company design and drafting techniques to plan, layout, and maintain engineering design data (detail, assembly and installation drawings or datasets)
- Implement engineering and manufacturing standard methodologies to balance cost, schedule, and performance requirements
What you need
- Associate degree in Computer Aided Drafting & Design
- 5 or more years of experience in aerospace development or similar industry
- Proficiency in drawing generation and release using Creo Parametric and Windchill
- Proficiency in standard fits, tolerance stacks, and GD&T analysis (ASME Y14.5)
- Experience managing large CAD assemblies, BOMs, ICMs, and skeletons
- Experience designing active thermal hardware (tubing, radiators, coldplates, pump assemblies) and/or passive thermal hardware (multi-layer insulation blankets, Thermal Protection Systems)
- Experience working in cross-functional teams responsible for material selection, manufacturing processes, and product design
- Excellent attention to detail and task ownership with pride in all work
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted as a refugee or granted asylum
Preferred qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or equivalent
- 8 years or greater proven experience
- Experience releasing engineering data sets using Model Based Definition
- Experience with material selection, compatibility, and metallic manufacturing techniques and product forms (composites, sheet metal, machining)
- Experience designing for manufacturability
Pay
Base pay range varies by location:
- CA applicants: $39.34 - $55.07 per hour
- CO applicants: $36.06 - $50.48 per hour
- WA applicants: $39.34 - $55.07 per hour
- Other site ranges may differ
