Blue Origin's Lunar Permanence business unit is building sustainable infrastructure to transport crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface. The Mk1 lunar lander, christened 'Endurance', will be the largest and most complex vehicle ever to land on the Moon. Subsequent Mk1 landers will deliver NASA's VIPER rover and Lunar Terrain Vehicles to the lunar south pole.
You will use your technical expertise and leadership to join the Mk1 Lunar Lander team and positively impact safe spaceflight. You will solve novel thermal and mechanical design problems and complete challenging activities in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities
- Prepare design layouts, create detail part and assembly drawings/MBDs, and release data sets using CAD and Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) tools.
- Create and review engineering drawings and designs to ensure alignment to established specifications and standards.
- Support engineering teams in mechanical layout and detail design for structural detail parts and assemblies.
- Apply company design, drafting, and parts techniques to plan, layout, and maintain engineering design data (detail, assembly and installation drawings or datasets).
- Implement engineering and manufacturing standard methodologies to achieve balanced cost, schedule and performance requirements.
- Work with multi-functional teams responsible for selecting materials, manufacturing processes, and suppliers to produce world-class aerospace hardware.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in engineering and 5 or more years of related experience.
- Strong mechanical design skills using Creo.
- Proficiency in drawing generation and release processes using Creo Parametric and Windchill.
- Proficiency in standard fits, tolerance stacks, and GD&T analysis (ASME Y14.5).
- Experience managing large CAD assemblies, BOMs, ICMs, and skeletons.
- Experience designing active thermal hardware (tubing, radiators, coldplates, pump assemblies) and/or passive thermal hardware (MLI blankets, Thermal Protection Systems, etc.).
- Experience working in cross-functional teams responsible for selecting materials, manufacturing processes, and developing design to produce world-class engineered products.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- 8 or more years of related experience.
- Experience releasing engineering data sets using Model Based Definition.
- Experience with material selection, compatibility, and metallic manufacturing techniques and product forms (composites, sheet metal, machining).
- Demonstrated expertise with industry standard analysis codes: Ansys, Nastran, Optistruct, LS Dyna, Hypermesh, Hypersizer.
- Experience with rapid development techniques for hardware.
- Performing trades with vehicle level and subsystem design teams to enable fabrication and integration of component parts.
- Experience designing for manufacturability.
Compensation
Base pay range varies by location:
- CA: $121,023.00 - $169,432.20
- CO: $110,938.00 - $155,312.85
- WA: $121,023.00 - $169,432.20
- Other site ranges may differ
