NDT Shift Leader - A Shift Verified today

About this role

You will lead a team of NDT inspectors who perform nondestructive testing methods on materials and spaceflight systems. This position directly impacts the history of space exploration and requires dedicated commitment to safe, repeatable spaceflight operations.

Shift

A Shift / 1st shift: Monday through Thursday, 6:00 AM to 4:30 PM

Key responsibilities

• Supervise personnel: set goals, conduct performance reviews, coach team members, plan and manage work schedules, monitor labor hours.
• Hold daily standup meetings to understand and schedule NDT work priorities.
• Coordinate with NDT management and other supervisors to share resources, meet production demands, and expand certification capabilities.
• Provide production status updates at daily schedule meetings.
• Participate in job descriptions, candidate screening, interview panels, and make hiring recommendations.
• Promote teamwork and maintain good employee morale.
• Maintain and acquire NDT certifications and perform inspections as required.
• Work with engineers to review design concepts, provide assembly feedback, support development tests, and contribute to process development.
• Ensure team training records are current and accurate.
• Verify all products meet quality standards per released engineering drawings.
• Maintain stock of consumable items and calibrate tools and equipment.
• Promote and maintain 5S and FOD controls; perform 5S audits and FOD walkdowns regularly.
• Develop and implement process, efficiency, and continuous safety improvements.
• Guide team members to ensure everyone has what they need to safely succeed.
• Implement, communicate, and maintain NDT-area safety program aligned with Blue Origin's Environmental Health and Safety program.
• Conduct hardware inspections per qualified inspection procedures.
• Support customers and product flow through NDT workcenters.

Required qualifications

• Knowledge of NAS 410 and ASTM/AWS specifications for certifications and inspection requirements.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
• Knowledge of multiple NDT methods (RT, PT, UT, ET, IR preferred).
• Knowledge of drawings, production work orders, and familiarity with inventory and issue tracking systems.
• Demonstrated ability to manage and lead teams.
• Ability to work in team environment with multiple and rapidly changing priorities.
• Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to inclusive culture.
• Strong organization and people skills.
• U.S. citizen, national, permanent resident (Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted as refugee or granted asylum.
• Ability to work extended hours and support A-shift as needed.

Desired qualifications

• 5 or more years of experience in aerospace NDT field.
• Level II certification in two or more methods (preferred: one volumetric method such as RT or UT).
• 2 or more years in a leadership position.
• Knowledge of advanced NDT methods (ST, THz, CT preferred).
• Familiarity with MS Project and CAD/CAM drawing packages.
• Experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
• Ability to document and maintain accurate records and read drawings and prints.
• Ability to use standard tools and basic fabrication equipment.
• Experience inspecting and troubleshooting aerospace or military hardware.
• Attention to detail and passion for space and success.
• Physically able to climb ladders and stairs, work in small restricted areas, lift and carry 50 lbs.
