NDT Shift Leader - A Shift Verified today
About the role
You will lead a team of nondestructive testing inspectors who perform NDT methods on materials and spaceflight systems. You'll be responsible for team supervision, quality assurance, and ensuring safe, repeatable spaceflight operations across Blue Origin's production facilities.
Shift schedule
A Shift / 1st Shift: Monday through Thursday, 6:00 AM to 4:30 PM
Key responsibilities
- Supervise personnel including setting goals, conducting performance reviews, coaching, planning work schedules, and monitoring labor hours
- Hold group standup meetings to understand and schedule NDT work priorities
- Coordinate with NDT Management and other supervisors to allocate NDT resources and meet production demands
- Provide status updates on production deliverables at daily schedule meetings
- Participate in authoring job descriptions, candidate screening, and interview panels
- Promote teamwork and maintain team morale
- Maintain and acquire NDT certifications and perform inspections as required
- Work with engineers to review design concepts, provide feedback, and support development tests
- Ensure training records are current and accurate for all team members
- Verify all products meet quality standards per engineering drawings
- Maintain stock of consumable items and ensure tools and equipment are maintained and calibrated
- Promote and maintain 5S and FOD controls, perform regular audits and walkdowns
- Develop and implement process, efficiency, and continuous safety improvements
- Guide teammates to ensure they have everything necessary to safely succeed
- Implement, communicate, and maintain a safety program specific to the NDT area
- Conduct inspections on hardware per qualified inspection procedures
- Support customer product flow through NDT workcenters
- Screen NDT candidates and participate in hiring new inspectors
Required qualifications
- Knowledge of NAS 410 and ASTM/AWS specifications for certifications and inspection requirements
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office
- Knowledge of multiple NDT methods (RT, PT, UT, ET, IR preferred)
- Knowledge of drawings, production work orders, and familiarity with inventory and issue tracking systems
- Demonstrated ability to manage and lead teams
- Ability to work in a team environment with multiple and rapidly changing priorities
- Ability to earn trust, maintain positive professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion
- Strong organization and people skills
- U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted as a refugee or granted asylum
- Ability to work extended hours and support A-shift as needed
Desired qualifications
- 5 or more years of experience in aerospace NDT field
- Level II certification in two or more methods (preferred one volumetric such as RT or UT)
- 2 or more years in a leadership position
- Knowledge of advanced NDT methods (ST, THz, CT preferred)
- Familiarity with MS Project and CAD/CAM drawing packages
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite
- Ability to document, maintain accurate records, and read drawings and prints
- Ability to use standard tools and basic fabrication equipment
- Experience inspecting and troubleshooting aerospace or military hardware
- Attention to detail and passion for space and success
- Physical ability to climb ladders and stairs, work in small restricted areas, and lift and carry 50 lbs.
