The Role

You will lead a team of inspectors who perform Nondestructive Testing methods on materials and spaceflight systems. You will be responsible for team supervision, work scheduling, performance management, and direct participation in inspections. Your work directly impacts part integrity, quality, and the safety of human spaceflight.

Shift: B Shift (2nd shift) Monday through Thursday, 4:00 PM to 2:30 AM

Responsibilities

  • Supervise NDT inspectors: set goals, conduct performance reviews, coach staff, manage schedules, and track labour hours
  • Hold daily standup meetings to understand and prioritise NDT work
  • Coordinate with NDT management and other supervisors to allocate resources and meet production demands
  • Provide production status updates at daily schedule meetings
  • Participate in hiring: screen candidates, conduct interviews, and make recommendations
  • Maintain current certifications and perform inspections as required
  • Work with engineers to review design concepts, support development tests, and contribute to process improvements
  • Ensure team training records are current and accurate
  • Verify all products meet quality standards per engineering drawings
  • Maintain inventory of consumable items and equipment calibration
  • Promote and maintain 5S and FOD controls; conduct audits and walkdowns regularly
  • Develop and implement continuous safety and efficiency improvements
  • Implement and communicate NDT-specific safety programs aligned with Blue Origin's Environmental Health and Safety program
  • Conduct hardware inspections per qualified inspection requirements
  • Support customer requirements and product flow through NDT workcenters
  • Provide on-the-job training to team members in NDT methods and MEWP

Required Qualifications

  • Knowledge of NAS 410 and ASTM/AWS specifications for certifications and inspection requirements
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • Knowledge of multiple NDT methods (RT, PT, UT, ET, IR preferred)
  • Knowledge of engineering drawings, production work orders, inventory and issue tracking systems
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and lead teams
  • Ability to work in a team environment with multiple and rapidly changing priorities
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion
  • Strong organisation and people skills
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum
  • Ability to work extended hours and support A-shift as needed

Desired Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in aerospace NDT field
  • Level II certification in two or more methods (preferably one volumetric method such as RT or UT)
  • 2+ years in a leadership position
  • Knowledge of advanced NDT methods (ST, THz, CT)
  • Familiarity with MS Project and CAD/CAM drawing packages
  • Experience inspecting and troubleshooting aerospace or military hardware
  • Ability to climb ladders and stairs, work in small restricted areas, and lift and carry 50 lbs
