NDT Technician - Ultrasonic (UT), Eddy Current (ET) - Levell II - A Shift Verified today
About the role
You will perform development and production nondestructive testing (NDT) activities on spaceflight systems, primarily ultrasonic and eddy current inspections of flight-critical metallic and composite hardware and test samples. You will assure part integrity, quality and lifespan as part of a specialist team within Blue Origin Operations.
Shift
A Shift/1st shift: Monday through Thursday, 6:00 AM to 4:30 PM
Responsibilities
- Establish and maintain techniques to properly examine hardware, ensuring adherence to all safety and specification requirements
- Perform inspections using ultrasonic and eddy current equipment
- Interpret inspection results and apply acceptance criteria identified on drawings or work orders
- Document and organize inspection results
- Interface with engineers and managers to describe inspection results
Required qualifications
- Qualify to certify to Level II status per NAS-410 in ultrasonic and eddy current with minimum 800 hours documented experience
- Meet minimum training requirements per NAS-410 in ultrasonic and eddy current methods
- Pass ultrasonic and eddy current general and specific tests by week 3 (study materials provided)
- Meet minimum vision requirements: near vision 20/25 (Snellen) at 16 inches or Jaeger No. 1 at not less than 12 inches; color perception 14 Plate Ishihara test with minimum 12 panels correct
- Familiar with ASTM E164 (contact ultrasonic testing of weldments)
- Familiar with ASTM E2375 (ultrasonic testing of wrought products)
- Familiar with ASTM E426 (electromagnetic eddy current examination of tubular products)
- Familiar with SAE-ARP4402 (eddy current inspection of open fastener holes)
- Ability to determine optimal parameters per defined techniques and system calibrations
- Capable in analyzing data from metallic and composite structures
- Ability to read and understand blueprints and schematic diagrams
- Experience with MS Office products
- Willing to work overtime, weekends and off shifts as needed
- Ability to work off shifts
- Ability to lift and transport parts and inspection equipment within OSHA requirements
- Experience in both lab and field inspection environments
- U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card), or lawfully admitted as refugee or granted asylum
- Comfortable working off platforms, scissor lifts and aerial boom lifts
Desired qualifications
- Eddy current array training and experience
- Familiar with ASTM E2884 (eddy current testing using conformable sensor arrays)
- Familiar with NASA PRC-6509 (process specification for eddy current inspection)
- Experience analyzing data from metallic and composite structures
- Experience with thru-transmission ultrasonics of sandwich composite structures
- Experience in pulse echo composites inspection
- Experience in bond testing
- Experience in composite repair inspection
- Familiar with ASTM E2700 (contact ultrasonic testing of welds using phased arrays)
- Advanced phased array training
- Thermography training (Level I and II)
- Radiographer certification by state or certifying entity (ASNT, IRRSP) for X-ray
- Ability to meet minimum training in radiography, liquid penetrant, or magnetic particle per NAS-410
- Ability to certify in radiography, liquid penetrant, magnetic particle, infrared, or emerging methods (terahertz, laser shearography) per NAS-410
- 40 hours radiation safety training
- 40 hours digital radiography training
- Training in computed and digital radiography
- Knowledge of industry NDT standards
- Production environment experience, preferably aerospace
- Experience with automated or robotic inspection equipment
- 1 or more years aerospace experience
