NDT Technician - Ultrasonic (UT), Eddy Current (ET) - Levell II - A Shift Verified today
About this role
As part of Blue Origin Operations, you will perform nondestructive testing (NDT) on spaceflight systems as part of a team of technicians and engineers. You will conduct ultrasonic and eddy current inspections of flight-critical hardware and test samples, ensuring part integrity, quality and lifespan across all aspects of spaceflight systems.
Shift
A Shift / 1st shift: Monday to Thursday, 6:00 AM to 4:30 PM
Responsibilities
- Establish and maintain techniques to properly examine hardware, ensuring adherence to all safety and specification requirements
- Perform inspections using Ultrasonic and Eddy Current equipment
- Interpret inspection results and apply acceptance criteria identified on drawing or shop work order
- Document and organize inspection results
- Interface and communicate with Engineers and Managers to describe inspection results
Required qualifications
- Qualify to certify to Level II status per NAS-410 requirements in Ultrasonic and Eddy Current with a minimum of 800 documented hours
- Meet minimum training requirements per NAS-410 in Ultrasound and Eddy Current methods
- Pass Ultrasonic and Eddy Current General Test and Specific Test by week 3 (study materials provided)
- Meet minimum Vision Requirements: Near Vision either 20/25 (Snellen) at 16 inches or Jaeger No. 1 at not less than 12 inches; Color Perception 14 Plate Ishihara Color Test with minimum 12 panels correctly identified
- Familiar with ASTM E164 Standard Practice for Contact Ultrasonic Testing of Weldments
- Familiar with ASTM E2375 Standard Practice for Ultrasonic Testing of Wrought Products
- Familiar with ASTM E426 Standard Practice for Electromagnetic (Eddy Current) Examination of Seamless and Welded Tubular Products, Titanium, Austenitic Stainless Steel and Similar Alloys
- Familiar with SAE-ARP4402 Eddy Current Inspection of Open Fastener Holes in Aluminum Aircraft Structure
- Ability to determine optimal parameters per defined techniques and system calibrations for inspection activity
- Capable in analyzing resultant data from metallic and composite structures
- Ability to read and understand blueprints and schematic diagrams
- Experience with MS Office products
- Willing to work overtime, weekends and off shifts as needed to meet critical deadlines
- Ability to work off shifts
- Ability to lift and transport parts and inspection equipment within OSHA requirements
- Experience in both lab and field inspection environments
- Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion
- U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum
- Comfortable working off platforms, scissor lifts and aerial boom lifts
Desired qualifications
- Eddy Current Array Training and experience
- Familiar with ASTM E2884 Standard Guide for Eddy Current Testing of Electrically Conducting Materials Using Conformable Sensor Arrays
- Familiar with NASA PRC-6509 Process Specification for Eddy Current Inspection
- Experience analyzing Thru-Transmission Ultrasonics of sandwich composite structures
- Experience in pulse echo composites inspection
- Experience in Bond Testing
- Experience in composite repair inspection
- Familiar with ASTM E2700 Standard Practice for Contact Ultrasonic Testing of Welds Using Phased Arrays
- Advanced Phased Array Training
- Thermography Training (Level I and Level II)
- Certification as radiographer for X-ray by state or certifying entity (such as ASNT, IRRSP)
- Ability to meet minimum training requirements per NAS-410 in Radiography, Liquid Penetrant, Magnetic Particle
- Ability to certify in Radiography, Liquid Penetrant, Magnetic Particle, Infrared, Terahertz, or Laser Shearography per NAS-410
- 40 hours of Radiation Safety Training
- 40 hours of Digital Radiography Training
- Training in Computed and Digital Radiography
- Knowledge of industry NDT standards
- Experience in production environment, preferably aerospace
- Experience with automated or robotic inspection equipment
- 1 or more years of aerospace experience
