NDT Technician - Ultrasonic (UT) - Level II - A Shift Verified today
About the role
As part of Blue Origin Operations' Nondestructive Testing team, you will perform development and production activities involving ultrasonic inspection methods for various spaceflight systems. You will be responsible for ultrasonic inspection of flight-critical metallic and composite flight hardware and test samples, directly contributing to part integrity, quality, and lifespan assurance.
Responsibilities
- Establish and maintain techniques to properly examine hardware, ensuring adherence to all safety and specification requirements
- Perform inspections using ultrasonic equipment
- Interpret inspection results and apply acceptance criteria identified on drawing or shop work order
- Document and organize inspection results
- Interface and communicate with engineers and managers to describe inspection results
Shift
A Shift (1st shift): Monday to Thursday, 6:00 AM to 4:30 PM
Required qualifications
- 2+ years of Level II experience in ultrasonics
- Qualified to certify to Level II status per NAS-410 requirements in ultrasound with minimum 800 hours documented experience
- Must pass Ultrasonic General Test and Specific Test by week 3 (study materials provided if needed)
- 80 hours of Phased Array Training
- Near Vision: Either 20/25 (Snellen) at 16 inches or Jaeger No. 1 at not less than 12 inches
- Color Perception: 14 Plate Ishihara Color Test with minimum of 12 panels correctly identified
- Familiar with ASTM E164 (Contact Ultrasonic Testing of Weldments)
- Familiar with ASTM E2700 (Contact Ultrasonic Testing of Welds Using Phased Arrays)
- Familiar with ASTM E2375 (Ultrasonic Testing of Wrought Products)
- Ability to determine optimal parameters per defined techniques and system calibrations
- Experience analyzing data from metallic and composite structures
- Ability to read and understand blueprints and schematic diagrams
- MS Office proficiency required
- Experience in both lab and field inspection environments
- Comfortable working off platforms, scissor lifts, and aerial boom lifts
- Ability to lift and transport parts and inspection equipment within OSHA requirements
- Willing to work overtime, weekends, and off shifts as needed for critical deadlines
- U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted as refugee or granted asylum
Desired qualifications
- Advanced Phased Array Training including Total Focusing Method (TFM)
- Experience analyzing Thru-Transmission Ultrasonics of sandwich composite structures
- Experience in pulse echo composites inspection
- Experience in Bond Testing
- Experience in composite repair inspection
- Thermography Training (LI and LII)
- State or certifying entity (ASNT, IRRSP) card as radiographer for X-ray
- Ability to meet NAS-410 training requirements in radiography, eddy current, liquid penetrant, or magnetic particle
- Ability to certify in radiography, eddy current, liquid penetrant, magnetic particle, infrared, terahertz, or laser shearography per NAS-410
- 40 hours of Radiation Safety Training
- 40 hours of Digital Radiography Training
- Training in Computed and Digital Radiography
- Knowledge of industry NDT standards
- Production environment experience, preferably aerospace
- Experience with automated and robotic inspection equipment
- 1+ years aerospace experience
