NDT Technician - Ultrasonic (UT) - Level II – A Shift Verified today
The Role
As part of Blue Origin's Nondestructive Testing team, you will perform development and production activities involving ultrasonic (UT) inspection of flight-critical metallic and composite hardware and test samples. You will share responsibility for assuring part integrity, quality, and lifespan across all spaceflight systems.
This position requires dedicated commitment to safe and repeatable spaceflight operations.
Schedule
A Shift / 1st Shift: Monday through Thursday, 6:00 AM to 4:30 PM
Responsibilities
- Establish and maintain techniques to properly examine hardware, ensuring adherence to all safety and specification requirements
- Perform inspections using ultrasonic equipment
- Interpret inspection results and apply acceptance criteria from drawings or shop work orders
- Document and organize inspection results
- Interface and communicate with engineers and managers to describe inspection findings
Required Qualifications
- 2+ years of Level II experience in ultrasonics
- Must pass Ultrasonic General Test and Specific Test by week 3 (study materials provided if needed)
- 80 hours of Phased Array Training
- Qualified to certify to Level II status per NAS-410 requirements in ultrasound with minimum 800 documented hours
- Meet minimum vision requirements: Near vision 20/25 (Snellen) at 16" or Jaeger No. 1 at 12"; Color perception minimum 12 of 14 panels correct on Ishihara Color Test
- Familiar with ASTM E164 (contact ultrasonic testing of weldments)
- Familiar with ASTM E2700 (contact ultrasonic testing of welds using phased arrays)
- Familiar with ASTM E2375 (ultrasonic testing of wrought products)
- Ability to determine optimal parameters per defined techniques and system calibrations
- Experience analyzing resultant data from metallic and composite structures
- Ability to read and understand blueprints and schematic diagrams
- MS Office experience required
- Willing to work overtime, weekends, and off shifts as needed
- Ability to work off shifts
- Ability to lift and transport parts and inspection equipment within OSHA requirements
- Experience in both lab and field inspection environments

- U.S. citizen, national, permanent resident (Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted as refugee or granted asylum
- Comfortable working on platforms, scissor lifts, and aerial boom lifts
Desired Qualifications
- Advanced Phased Array Training including Total Focusing Method (TFM)
- Experience analyzing Thru-Transmission Ultrasonics of sandwich composite structures
- Experience in pulse echo composites inspection
- Experience in bond testing
- Experience in composite repair inspection
- Thermography Training (LI and LII)
- Carded by state or certifying entity (ASNT, IRRSP) as radiographer for X-ray
- Ability to meet minimum training requirements per NAS-410 in radiography, eddy current, liquid penetrant, or magnetic particle
- Ability to certify in radiography, eddy current, liquid penetrant, magnetic particle, infrared, terahertz, or laser shearography per NAS-410
- 40 hours Radiation Safety Training
- 40 hours Digital Radiography Training
- Training in computed and digital radiography
- Knowledge of industry NDT standards
- Production environment experience, preferably aerospace
- Experience with automated or robotic inspection equipment
- 1+ years aerospace experience
