NDT Technician - Ultrasonic (UT) - Level II – A Shift Verified today
About the Role
As part of Blue Origin's Nondestructive Testing team, you will perform development and production activities using Ultrasonic Testing (UT) methods on flight-critical metallic and composite spaceflight hardware and test samples. You will contribute to assuring part integrity, quality, and lifespan across all Blue Origin facilities.
Responsibilities
- Establish and maintain techniques to properly examine hardware, ensuring adherence to all safety and specification requirements
- Perform inspections using Ultrasonic equipment
- Interpret inspection results and apply acceptance criteria from drawings or shop work orders
- Document and organize inspection results
- Interface and communicate with Engineers and Managers to describe inspection findings
Schedule
A Shift / 1st Shift, Monday through Thursday, 6:00 AM to 4:30 PM. Must be willing to work overtime, weekends, and off-shifts as needed to meet critical deadlines.
Required Qualifications
- 2+ years of Level 2 experience in ultrasonics
- Qualified to certify to Level II status per NAS-410 requirements in Ultrasound with minimum 800 hours documented experience
- Must pass Ultrasonic General Test and Specific Test by week 3 (study materials provided if needed)
- 80 hours of Phased Array Training
- Familiar with ASTM E164 (Contact Ultrasonic Testing of Weldments)
- Familiar with ASTM E2700 (Contact Ultrasonic Testing of Welds Using Phased Arrays)
- Familiar with ASTM E2375 (Ultrasonic Testing of Wrought Products)
- Ability to determine optimal parameters per defined techniques and system calibrations
- Experience analyzing data from metallic and composite structures
- Able to read and understand blueprints and schematic diagrams
- Experience with MS Office products required
- Experience in both lab and field inspection environments
- Ability to lift and transport parts and inspection equipment within OSHA requirements
- Comfortable working off platforms, scissor lifts, and aerial boom lifts
- Minimum Vision Requirements: Near Vision 20/25 (Snellen) at 16 inches or Jaeger No. 1 at 12 inches minimum; Color Perception 14 Plate Ishihara Color Test with minimum 12 panels correctly identified
- Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted as a refugee or granted asylum
Desired Qualifications
- Advanced Phased Array Training including Total Focusing Method (TFM)
- Experience analyzing Thru-Transmission Ultrasonics of sandwich composite structures
- Experience in pulse echo composites inspection
- Experience in Bond Testing
- Experience in composite repair inspection
- Thermography Training (LI and LII)
- State or certifying entity card (such as ASNT, IRRSP) as a radiographer for X-ray
- Training in other NDT methods: Radiography, Eddy Current, Liquid Penetrant, Magnetic Particle per NAS-410
- Ability to certify in Radiography, Eddy Current, Liquid Penetrant, Magnetic Particle, Infrared, Terahertz, or Laser Shearography per NAS-410
- 40 hours of Radiation Safety Training
- 40 hours of Digital Radiography Training
- Training in Computed and Digital Radiography
- Knowledge of industry NDT standards
- Experience in aerospace production environments
- Experience with automated or robotic inspection equipment
- 1+ years aerospace experience
