NDT Technician - Ultrasonic (UT) - Level II - A Shift Verified today
About the role
As a Level II Ultrasonic NDT Technician, you will perform development and production nondestructive testing activities for Blue Origin spaceflight systems. You will inspect flight-critical metallic and composite flight hardware and test samples using ultrasonic methods, ensuring part integrity, quality, and lifespan.
Shift: A Shift, Monday to Thursday, 6:00 AM to 4:30 PM
Your responsibilities
- Establish and maintain techniques to properly examine hardware, ensuring adherence to all safety and specification requirements
- Perform inspections using ultrasonic equipment
- Interpret inspection results and apply acceptance criteria identified on drawing or shop work order
- Document and organize inspection results
- Interface and communicate with engineers and managers to describe inspection results
Your qualifications
- 2 or more years of Level II experience in ultrasonics
- Qualified to certify to Level II status per NAS-410 requirements in ultrasound with a minimum of 800 documented hours
- Must pass Ultrasonic General Test and Specific Test by week 3 (study materials provided if needed)
- Familiarity with ASTM E164 Standard Practice for Contact Ultrasonic Testing of Weldments
- Familiarity with ASTM E2375 Standard Practice for Ultrasonic Testing of Wrought Products
- Ability to determine optimal parameters per defined techniques and system calibrations
- Experience analyzing data from metallic and composite structures
- Ability to read and understand blueprints and schematic diagrams
- Proficiency with MS Office products
- Experience in both lab and field inspection environments
- Comfortable working from platforms, scissor lifts, and aerial boom lifts
- Ability to lift and transport parts and inspection equipment within OSHA requirements
- Willing to work overtime, weekends, and off shifts as needed to meet critical deadlines
- Minimum vision requirements: Near Vision 20/25 (Snellen) at 16 inches or Jaeger No. 1 at 12 inches minimum; Color Perception 14 Plate Ishihara Color Test with minimum 12 panels correctly identified
- U.S. citizen, U.S. national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted as a refugee or granted asylum
Desired qualifications
- 80 hours of Phased Array training
- Familiarity with ASTM E2700 Standard Practice for Contact Ultrasonic Testing of Welds Using Phased Arrays
- Advanced Phased Array training including Total Focusing Method (TFM)
- Experience in Thru-Transmission ultrasonics of sandwich composite structures
- Experience in pulse echo composites inspection
- Experience in bond testing
- Experience in composite repair inspection
- Thermography training (LI and LII)
- Certification as a radiographer for X-ray by a state or certifying entity (ASNT, IRRSP)
- Training in other NDT methods: Radiography, Eddy Current, Liquid Penetrant, Magnetic Particle per NAS-410
- Certification in Radiography, Eddy Current, Liquid Penetrant, Magnetic Particle, Infrared, Terahertz, or Laser Shearography per NAS-410
- 40 hours of Radiation Safety training
- 40 hours of Digital Radiography training
- Training in Computed and Digital Radiography
- Knowledge of industry NDT standards
- Production environment experience, preferably aerospace
- Experience with automated or robotic inspection equipment
- 1 or more years of aerospace experience
