Role Overview

As an NDT specialist in Blue Origin Operations, you will perform development and production nondestructive testing (NDT) of spaceflight systems. You will primarily conduct ultrasonic inspections of flight-critical hardware and test samples, ensuring part integrity, quality, and service life across all Blue Origin facilities.

Shift

B Shift (2nd shift): Monday through Thursday, 3:00 PM to 1:30 AM

Responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain techniques to properly examine hardware, ensuring adherence to safety and specification requirements
  • Perform inspections using ultrasonic equipment
  • Interpret inspection results and apply acceptance criteria from drawings or shop work orders
  • Document and organize inspection results
  • Interface with engineers and managers to describe inspection findings
  • Perform volumetric NDE inspections with advanced phased array ultrasonics
  • Support research and development into full matrix capture phased array ultrasonic for operational improvement
  • Assist in training and developing team members
  • Support development of NDE inspection techniques for complex geometries

Required Qualifications

  • Qualify to certify to Level II status (angle beam weld) per ASME BPVC V, ISO 9712, or ASNT CP189 in ultrasonic with minimum 800 hours documented experience
  • Meet minimum NAS-410 training requirements: Conventional UT (80 hours) and Phased Array Training (80 hours)
  • Pass ultrasonic General Test and Specific Test by week 3 (study materials provided)
  • Vision requirements: Near vision 20/25 (Snellen) at 16 inches or Jaeger No. 1 at 12 inches minimum; color perception 14-plate Ishihara test with minimum 12 panels correct
  • Familiarity with ASTM E164, ASTM E2375, and ASTM E2700 standards
  • Ability to determine optimal parameters per defined techniques and system calibrations
  • Capability to analyze data from metallic and composite structures
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints and schematic diagrams
  • MS Office experience required
  • Willingness to work overtime, weekends, and off-shifts as needed
  • Ability to lift and transport parts and inspection equipment within OSHA requirements
  • Experience in both lab and field inspection environments
  • Comfortable working on platforms, scissor lifts, and aerial boom lifts
  • U.S. citizen or national, permanent resident (Green Card), or lawfully admitted as refugee or asylee

Desired Qualifications

  • Advanced phased array training including Total Focusing Method
  • Eddy current array training and experience
  • Familiarity with ASTM E2884 and NASA PRC-6509 standards
  • Experience analyzing data from metallic and composite structures
  • Pulse echo composites inspection experience
  • State or certifying body (ASNT, IRRSP) radiographer card for X-ray
  • NAS-410 training in other methods: Radiography, Eddy Current, Liquid Penetrant, Magnetic Particle
  • Certification in one or more methods: Radiography, Eddy Current, Liquid Penetrant, Magnetic Particle, Infrared, Terahertz, or Laser Shearography per NAS-410
  • 40 hours Radiation Safety Training
  • 40 hours Digital Radiography Training
  • Training in Computed and Digital Radiography
  • Knowledge of industry NDT standards
  • Production environment experience, preferably aerospace
  • Automated or robotic inspection equipment experience
  • 1+ years aerospace experience
