NDT Technician – Ultrasonic (UT) - Level II – B Shift Verified today
About the role
As part of Blue Origin's Nondestructive Testing team, you will perform development and production NDT activities for various spaceflight systems. Your work will focus on ultrasonic inspection of flight-critical metallic and composite flight hardware and test samples, ensuring part integrity, quality and lifespan.
Shift: B Shift/2nd Shift, Monday through Thursday, 4:00 PM to 2:30 AM.
What you will do
- Establish and maintain techniques to properly examine hardware, ensuring adherence to all safety and specification requirements
- Perform inspections using ultrasonic equipment
- Interpret inspection results and apply acceptance criteria identified on drawings or shop work orders
- Document and organize inspection results
- Interface and communicate with engineers and managers to describe inspection results
What you need
- 2+ years of Level II experience in ultrasonics
- Must pass Ultrasonic General Test and Specific Test by week 3 (study materials provided if needed)
- 80 hours of Phased Array Training
- Qualified to certify to Level II status per NAS-410 requirements in ultrasound with minimum 800 hours documented experience
- Vision requirements: Near Vision 20/25 (Snellen) at 16 inches or Jaeger No. 1 at not less than 12 inches; Color Perception 14 Plate Ishihara Color Test with minimum 12 panels correctly identified
- Familiar with ASTM E164 (Contact Ultrasonic Testing of Weldments)
- Familiar with ASTM E2700 (Contact Ultrasonic Testing of Welds Using Phased Arrays)
- Familiar with ASTM E2375 (Ultrasonic Testing of Wrought Products)
- Ability to determine optimal parameters per defined techniques and system calibrations
- Experience analyzing data from metallic and composite structures
- Ability to read and understand blueprints and schematic diagrams
- MS Office experience required
- Willing to work overtime, weekends and off-shifts as needed
- Ability to work off-shifts
- Ability to lift and transport parts and inspection equipment within OSHA requirements
- Experience in both lab and field inspection environments
- Comfortable working on platforms, scissor lifts and aerial boom lifts
- U.S. citizen or national, permanent resident (Green Card), refugee, or granted asylum
Desired qualifications
- Advanced Phased Array Training including Total Focusing Method (TFM)
- Experience analyzing Thru-Transmission Ultrasonics of sandwich composite structures
- Experience in pulse echo composites inspection
- Bond Testing experience
- Composite repair inspection experience
- Thermography Training (Level I and II)
- State or certifying entity card (such as ASNT, IRRSP) as radiographer for X-ray
- Minimum training per NAS-410 in other methods: Radiography, Eddy Current, Liquid Penetrant, Magnetic Particle
- Ability to certify in one or more methods: Radiography, Eddy Current, Liquid Penetrant, Magnetic Particle, Infrared, Terahertz, or Laser Shearography per NAS-410
- 40 hours Radiation Safety Training
- 40 hours Digital Radiography Training
- Training in Computed and Digital Radiography
- Knowledge of industry NDT standards
- Production environment experience, preferably aerospace
- Automated or robotic inspection equipment experience
- 1+ years aerospace experience
