NDT Technician - Ultrasonic (UT) - Level II - D Shift (Weekend Night Shift) Verified today
Role overview
You will perform development and production nondestructive testing (NDT) using ultrasonic (UT) methods on spaceflight systems. Your work ensures part integrity, quality and lifespan across flight-critical hardware and test samples.
Responsibilities
- Establish and maintain techniques to properly examine hardware, ensuring adherence to all safety and specification requirements
- Perform inspections using ultrasonic equipment
- Interpret inspection results and apply acceptance criteria from drawings or shop work orders
- Document and organize inspection results
- Interface with engineers and managers to communicate inspection findings
Required qualifications
- 2+ years Level II experience in ultrasonics
- Must pass Ultrasonic General Test and Specific Test by week 3 (study materials provided)
- Meet minimum training requirements per NAS-410 in ultrasound
- Qualify to certify to Level II status per NAS-410 with minimum 800 hours documented experience
- Vision requirements: near vision 20/25 (Snellen) at 16 inches or Jaeger No. 1 at 12+ inches; colour perception 14-plate Ishihara test with minimum 12 correct
- Familiar with ASTM E164 (contact UT of weldments), ASTM E2700 (phased array UT of welds), and ASTM E2375 (UT of wrought products)
- Ability to determine optimal parameters per defined techniques and system calibrations
- Experience analyzing data from metallic and composite structures
- Experience with thru-transmission ultrasonics of sandwich composite structures
- Experience in pulse echo composites inspection
- Experience in bond testing
- Experience in composite repair inspection
- Ability to read and understand blueprints and schematic diagrams
- MS Office products proficiency required
- Willing to work overtime, weekends and off-shifts as needed
- Ability to lift and transport parts and inspection equipment within OSHA requirements
- Experience in both lab and field inspection environments
- Comfortable working off platforms, scissor lifts and aerial boom lifts
Desired qualifications
- Advanced phased array training
- Thermography training (Level I and II)
- State or ASNT/IRRSP certification as radiographer for X-ray
- NAS-410 training in radiography, eddy current, liquid penetrant, or magnetic particle
- Certification in radiography, eddy current, liquid penetrant, magnetic particle, infrared, terahertz or laser shearography per NAS-410
- 40 hours radiation safety training
- 40 hours digital radiography training
- Training in computed and digital radiography
- Knowledge of industry NDT standards
- Production environment experience, preferably aerospace
- Experience with automated or robotic inspection equipment
- 1+ years aerospace experience
Shift schedule
D Shift (3rd shift): Friday to Sunday, 5:00 PM to 5:30 AM
