About this role

You will join Blue Origin Operations as an NDT Technician specializing in ultrasonic inspection of composite structures. Working within a team of nondestructive testing specialists and engineers, you will perform development and production inspections for various spaceflight systems, directly contributing to part integrity, quality assurance, and mission success.

What you will do

  • Establish and maintain ultrasonic inspection techniques to examine hardware safely and per specification
  • Perform inspections using ultrasonic equipment on composite flight hardware and test samples
  • Interpret inspection results and apply acceptance criteria from engineering drawings and work orders
  • Document and organize inspection results
  • Communicate with engineers and managers to describe inspection findings

Shift options

  • A Shift (1st): Monday to Thursday, 6:00 AM to 4:40 PM
  • B Shift (2nd): Monday to Thursday, 4:00 PM to 2:30 AM
  • C Shift (1st): Friday to Sunday, 5:00 AM to 5:30 PM
  • D Shift (3rd): Friday to Sunday, 5:00 PM to 5:30 AM

What we require

  • 2 or more years of Level II experience in ultrasonics
  • Must pass Ultrasonic General Test and Specific Test by week 3 (study materials provided if needed)
  • Meet NAS-410 minimum training requirements in ultrasound
  • Qualify for Level II certification per NAS-410 with minimum 800 documented hours
  • Vision requirements: Near vision 20/25 (Snellen) at 16 inches or Jaeger No. 1 at 12 inches; Color perception 14-plate Ishihara test with minimum 12 panels correct
  • Ability to determine optimal inspection parameters and calibrate systems
  • Experience analyzing data from metallic and composite structures
  • Experience with thru-transmission ultrasonics of sandwich composite structures
  • Experience with pulse echo composite inspection
  • Experience with bond testing
  • Experience with composite repair inspection
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints and schematic diagrams
  • MS Office proficiency required
  • Willing to work overtime, weekends, and off-shifts as needed
  • Able to lift and transport parts and inspection equipment within OSHA requirements
  • Experience in both lab and field inspection environments
  • Comfortable working on platforms, scissor lifts, and aerial boom lifts
  • Must be U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident, or lawfully admitted as refugee or asylee

Desired experience

  • Familiarity with ASTM E164 (contact ultrasonic testing of weldments)
  • Familiarity with ASTM E2700 (contact ultrasonic testing of welds using phased arrays)
  • Familiarity with ASTM E2375 (ultrasonic testing of wrought products)
  • Automated or robotic data acquisition experience
  • Phased Array Ultrasonic Testing (PAUT) knowledge and experience
  • AirScan inspection systems experience
  • Advanced Phased Array Training (80 hours)
  • Thermography training (Level I and II)
  • Shearography training (Level I and II)
  • NAS-410 training in radiography, eddy current, liquid penetrant, or magnetic particle methods
  • Certification in radiography, eddy current, liquid penetrant, magnetic particle, infrared, terahertz, or laser shearography per NAS-410
  • State or certifying entity (ASNT, IRRSP) radiographer card for X-ray
  • 40 hours radiation safety training
  • 40 hours digital radiography training
  • Computed and digital radiography training
  • Knowledge of industry NDT standards
  • Production environment experience, preferably aerospace
  • Automated or robotic inspection equipment experience
  • 1 or more years aerospace experience
