About This Role
As an NDT Technician on Blue Origin's Operations team, you will perform development and production activities involving Nondestructive Testing (NDT) methods for spaceflight systems. Your work will focus on ultrasonic inspections of flight-critical hardware and test samples, ensuring part integrity, quality, and service life.
This is a 2nd shift position: Monday to Thursday, 3:00 PM to 1:30 AM.
What You'll Do
- Establish and maintain inspection techniques to examine hardware safely and to specification
- Perform inspections using ultrasonic and eddy current equipment
- Interpret inspection results and apply acceptance criteria from drawings and work orders
- Document and organize inspection results
- Communicate findings with engineers and managers
Required Qualifications
- NAS-410 Level II certification in Ultrasonic with minimum 800 documented hours of experience
- Meet NAS-410 minimum training requirements in ultrasound methods
- Pass Ultrasonic General Test and Specific Test by week 3 (study materials provided if needed)
- Vision requirements: Near vision 20/25 (Snellen) at 16 inches or Jaeger No. 1 at 12 inches; color perception 14-plate Ishihara test with minimum 12 panels correct
- Familiar with ASTM E164 (contact ultrasonic testing of weldments)
- Familiar with ASTM E2375 (ultrasonic testing of wrought products)
- Ability to determine optimal parameters per defined techniques and system calibrations
- Analyze data from metallic and composite structures
- Read and understand blueprints and schematics
- Proficient in MS Office
- Willing to work overtime, weekends, and off-shifts as needed
- Able to lift and transport parts and equipment within OSHA limits
- Experience in both lab and field inspection environments
- Comfortable working on platforms, scissor lifts, and aerial boom lifts
Desired Qualifications
- Eddy Current Array training and experience
- Familiar with ASTM E2884 (eddy current testing with conformable sensor arrays)
- Familiar with NASA PRC-6509 (eddy current inspection process specification)
- Experience analyzing data from metallic and composite structures
- Pulse echo composites inspection experience
- Familiar with ASTM E2700 (phased array contact ultrasonic testing of welds)
- Advanced Phased Array training
- State or certifying entity card (ASNT, IRRSP) as radiographer for X-ray
- NAS-410 training in radiography, eddy current, liquid penetrant, or magnetic particle
- NAS-410 certification in radiography, eddy current, liquid penetrant, magnetic particle, infrared, terahertz, or laser shearography
- 40 hours radiation safety training
- 40 hours digital radiography training
- Computed and digital radiography training
- Knowledge of industry NDT standards
- Production environment experience, preferably aerospace
- Automated or robotic inspection equipment experience
- 1+ years aerospace experience
