Role Overview
As a PCB Layout Designer III on the Advanced Concepts and Enterprise Engineering (ACE) team, you will apply your expertise in digital, analog, mixed-signal, high-speed, RF and high-power PCB design to develop avionics board products for space vehicles and systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and layout high-performance, high-reliability PCBs for aerospace applications
- Develop and maintain corporate eCAD component libraries, including part footprints, schematic symbols and component information
- Create detailed PCB layout design files from schematics using Altium Designer, producing Gerbers, FAB and ASY drawings, and related documentation
- Ensure design and manufacturing practices adhere to industry standards and regulations
- Troubleshoot and resolve PCB design and layout issues
- Contribute to PCB and PCBA design reviews with design artifacts, DFM/DFA/DFT assessments and value-added analysis
- Collaborate in defining PCB development process improvements, procedures and checklists
- Work with cross-functional teams of mechanical, electrical, firmware and software engineers to meet design requirements
- Review and check quality of work from other layout resources, including internal and external teams
- Support and mentor internal layout resources on PCB design library and layout best practices
Minimum Qualifications
- 5 or more years of experience in PCB layout and design, specifically in aerospace and defense industry
- Experience creating and maintaining PCB part libraries, including schematic symbols and footprints
- Expert proficiency using Altium Designer Pro/365/Enterprise for PCB design, library and layout
- Experienced use of PCB best practices for design, manufacturing, assembly and testing, including IPC-6012 Class 3 standards and IPC-7352
- Experience with PCB design constraint management, including trace length matching and spacing rules
- Experience designing High-Density Interconnect (HDI) boards with fine pitch BGA components such as FPGAs, processors, microcontrollers and ASICs, including thru-hole and microvias, blind-buried vias
- Experience with High-Speed, High-Power and High-Density Interconnect board design, including signal integrity constraints, impedance-controlled nets and stack-up
- Experience routing multi-rail power delivery solutions, high-power thermal management and mechanical constraints
- Ability to work effectively in fast-paced, high-pressure environments, earn trust, maintain positive professional relationships, demonstrate attention to detail, strong task ownership and excellent communication
- Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident with current Green Card, or lawfully admitted to the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced certification in PCB design, Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in PCB Design, or Bachelor of Science (BS) in Electrical Engineering or related field
- Certifications such as CID (Certified Interconnect Designer), CIS (Certified IPC Specialists) or CSE (Certified Standards Expert)
- Familiarity with PCB DFM/DFA/DFT/DFC using tools such as Siemens Valor
- Familiarity with High-Speed and High-Power board design practices using tools such as Siemens HyperLynx
- Proficiency with Git Revision Control, AWS GovCloud tool environments, and scripting languages such as Python, Perl or DelphiScript to support tool integration and automation
- Exposure to AI tools that support PCB library and design automation such as Quilter, Darcy or similar tools
Compensation
Base pay range for CA and WA applicants: $104,027.00 to $145,637.10. Other site ranges may differ.
