About the Role

This is a design leadership position within the Blue Origin Engines business unit, where you will develop and execute avionics electronic hardware for engines powering the next generation of rockets. You will lead a small, collaborative team building high-reliability, safety-critical solutions that directly impact space exploration.

Responsibilities

  • Lead technical decision-making and direct activities of a small engineering team
  • Interpret systems engineering and quality requirements as applied to electrical product development
  • Develop circuits, boards, and rugged electronic hardware assemblies across the entire product lifecycle: concept, requirements definition, design, prototyping, verification testing (power-on, functional, acceptance, qualification), and production release
  • Support risk analyses, failure modes effects and criticality analyses (FMECA), design for test/manufacture/cost (DFx), and root-cause analysis of test discrepancies
  • Manage design schedules of avionics subsystems
  • Routinely present program status and issues
  • Identify root cause failure modes using fault tree and fishbone methodologies

Required Qualifications

  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering or related field with 10 or more years of professional experience in electronics hardware development
  • Direct hands-on experience with analog and digital circuit design, analysis, test, and debug
  • Knowledge of signal integrity, power, grounding, and board layout principles
  • Highly organized with excellent technical skills (written and verbal)
  • Experience with data anomaly review and system troubleshooting in lab or test environments

Desired Qualifications

  • Graduate degree in related engineering or technical field
  • Expertise designing electronics in space radiation environments
  • Proven expertise crafting high-reliability, safety-critical Class 3 board assemblies
  • Understanding of mechanical packaging of avionics in harsh environmental conditions
  • Power conversion electronics as applied to controlling BLDC motors
  • Knowledge of electric motor design and construction
  • Knowledge of EMI issues related to high voltage design
  • Proficiency using CAD layout tools for sophisticated printed circuit boards and experience with board manufacturing and assembly vendors
  • Exposure to aerospace flight hardware design aligned with DO-254
  • Experience developing high-reliability, radiation-tolerant flight hardware for prolonged exposure to extreme space environments

Compensation and Benefits

Base pay range for Washington applicants: $183,193.00 to $256,469.85 (other site ranges may differ)
