About the Role
You will join the In-Space Systems business unit as a Principal Spacecraft Systems Engineer on the Blue Ring program. Blue Ring addresses two critical challenges in spaceflight: space infrastructure and on-orbit mobility.
As a senior engineer and mentor, you will apply broad multi-disciplinary knowledge to ensure our spacecraft meets customer needs through rigorous systems engineering. You will own requirements definition, system architecture, interface design, and operational concepts. You will work across all program teams including Assembly Integration and Test, Mission Management, Launch Vehicle, Payloads, and Mission Operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide spacecraft expertise and technical leadership, guiding the systems engineering team both hands-on and as a mentor
- Structure and allocate requirements, manage changes, and define interfaces
- Collaborate with mission management and systems architect to understand team needs
- Ensure requirements apply to specific builds within a multi-mission product line
- Plan and develop verification methods and events
- Conduct technical analysis, trade studies, and research
- Design mission threads to integrate spacecraft with external systems
- Finalize vehicle specifications with verification and validation data from Assembly Integration and Test
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or higher in engineering or related technical field
- Over 15 years of experience in aerospace systems development and launch, with preference for robotic spacecraft
- At least 6 years of aerospace systems engineering expertise
- Proven track record leading aerospace projects from requirements definition through verification
- Extensive knowledge of Systems Engineering processes and methodologies, including the Systems Engineering V model
- Strong problem-solving abilities and trade study proficiency
- Leadership or management background with mentoring experience
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Active Top Secret/SCI clearance required
Preferred Qualifications
- Proficiency in spaceflight systems certification processes
- Expertise in deriving and allocating system-level requirements
- Familiarity with Confluence and JIRA collaboration tools

Compensation and Benefits
Compensation range for Washington applicants: $169,624.00 to $237,473.25 (other site ranges may differ).
