About the Role
This position supports the New Glenn program, a single-configuration heavy-lift orbital launch vehicle capable of carrying people and payloads to low-Earth orbit, geostationary transfer orbit, cislunar, and beyond. Its first stage is fully reusable and human-capable.
As an RF Engineer III in Blue Origin's Avionics team, you will:
- Design, develop, and verify high-performance RF systems, radios and antennas for the New Glenn flight vehicle
- Develop robust RF systems that ensure reliable data transmission during all mission phases, from pre-launch testing through orbital operations
- Engage with RF team and technical leads on requirements definition, modeling, analysis, design, test and production release of on-vehicle RF systems
- Follow avionics designs through formal verification, environmental qualification, release, and flight support activities
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or related field
- 5+ years of proven experience in design, development, integration, test, and operation of complex electronics
- Knowledge of telemetry system architectures, including multiplexers, encoders, transmitters, receivers, and ground station equipment
- High-speed digital, analog, and/or mixed-signal circuit design, build, and troubleshooting, with understanding of EE principles
- Some experience in PCB design, layout, fabrication and testing
- Circuit analysis and simulation, such as worst-case circuit analysis, signal integrity analysis, and logic or P-Spice simulation
- Experience in grounding and general board layout principles, including EMI/EMC tradeoffs
- RF communication testing or subsystem/component design, with a strong background in RF principles
- Experience with telemetry data acquisition systems design and optimization for high-reliability aerospace applications
- Background developing circuit cards, consumer electronics, wireless devices, or other advanced electronic commercial or aerospace products
- Knowledge of modeling and simulation tools such as ANSYS HFSS, AWR-Microwave Office, Altium designer, and python scripting
- Very good documentation skills
- Desire to work hands-on, both independently and as part of a team, throughout the design, modeling, simulation, verification, qualification, and production phases
Desired Qualifications
- Master of Science in Electrical Engineering or related subject areas
- 10+ years of proven experience in design, development, integration and test of complex RF Systems
- Familiarity with aerospace telemetry standards including IRIG 106, CCSDS, and spectrum management requirements
- Knowledge of SDR architectures and implementation of digital signal processing algorithms
- Background with launch vehicle hardware development, integration, or test
- Experience with RF link budget analysis and optimization for space-to-ground communications
- Good understanding of antenna principles and design
- Demonstrated project management skills, including schedule development, resource allocation, and risk management
Compensation
Base pay range for Washington applicants: $130,706.00 - $182,987.70. Other site ranges may differ.
