Role Overview
You will be the leading commercial market expert for avionics commodities, defining supply base strategies, managing global supplier performance, and developing relationships with critical aerospace suppliers across Blue Origin's spaceflight programs. You will use in-depth knowledge of markets, suppliers, and company requirements to develop commodity strategies that mitigate short and long-term business risks and guarantee supply continuity.
Responsibilities
- Provide strategic leadership in evaluation, sourcing, and development of the supply base for avionics (PCBA, CM Management, EEE)
- Ensure supply base delivers components to commercial scope, on time, at lowest lifecycle cost
- Conduct capability and capacity assessments of current and potential suppliers
- Execute RFx activities for strategic procurements
- Negotiate Long-Term Agreements with suppliers
- Develop and manage commodity metrics and reporting on industry trends, supplier ratings, and segmentation (grow, maintain, exit)
- Maintain databases capturing supplier status, history, criticality, operational performance, and known issues
- Identify long-lead procurement requirements and gaps in supply base capabilities with program stakeholders
- Evaluate supplier suitability including financial health, staffing, quality, throughput, technical capability, and reputation
- Lead suppliers through structural business changes to fulfill Blue's program demand
- Identify opportunities to leverage existing relationships, rationalize the supply base, and maintain alternate supplier options
- Support supplier recognition program development and deployment
- Identify candidate suppliers for M&A activity
- Gather intelligence on strategic suppliers' business health and inform leadership of long-term risks and countermeasures
- Conduct site surveys and business evaluations with supply chain engineering, procurement, and supplier quality engineering
Required Qualifications
- 8+ years minimum experience managing commodities in aerospace R&D and manufacturing environments
- Supply chain management experience in aerospace or other regulatory controlled environments, specific to the Avionics commodity
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Manufacturing, or related field
- Extensive technical knowledge of avionics commodity manufacturing processes
- Track record of driving supplier improvements in cost, quality, schedule, or other performance criteria
- Ability to travel 25% to 50% of time to remote sites
- Experience sourcing for both development and production
- Ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams and independently
- Strong communication skills and ability to manage multiple tasks and projects
- Exceptional organizational and analytical skills with proven ability to drive complex projects with minimal oversight
Desired Qualifications
- Master's degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Manufacturing, or related field
- Engineering background or strong technical experience in avionics commodity
- CPM or CSCP certification or equivalent
- ASQ quality engineer certification
- 2 years or more of supplier quality experience
- Six sigma/lean process improvement experience
- Experience with AS9100 and ISO9001 supply base requirements
- Experience with FAR/DFAR requirements
- Experience with commercial programs and contracts
Compensation
Base pay range for Washington applicants: $134,434.00 to $188,207.25. Other site ranges may differ.
