Senior DBF Firmware Engineer Verified today
About the role
Blue Origin is developing TeraWave, a satellite communications network delivering symmetrical data speeds up to 6 Tbps. You will develop low-level firmware for the Digital Beamforming (DBF) ASICs that drive this system, working closely with hardware and communications systems engineers.
Key responsibilities
- Develop ROM code and runtime firmware for Digital Beamforming ASICs
- Build firmware for beam pointing, analog calibration, FEIC management, SerDes link management, secure boot, telemetry, and sideband control
- Define and implement firmware and hardware interfaces with systems and hardware teams
- Support pre-silicon firmware development, integration, and validation
- Support post-silicon bring-up, debugging, and validation of custom DBF ASICs
Minimum qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related technical discipline
- 10+ years firmware development experience
- Software development in C
- Experience writing software that directly controls hardware (firmware, kernel device drivers, low-level embedded code)
- Debugging and validating embedded firmware and hardware/software interactions
Preferred qualifications
- RF and communications concepts: OFDM, digital beamforming, phased antenna arrays, 3GPP specifications
- Leading and mentoring engineers
- RTOS and hard real-time constraints (FreeRTOS, Zephyr)
- Cortex-M ISA
- DSP accelerators
- Rust, especially no-std Rust
- CI flows and automated hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing
- Board-level hardware design, schematics, and data sheets
- Pre-silicon simulation and emulation platforms (QEMU, Palladium, ZeBu)
- Bring-up of custom silicon
