The Role
As a Senior Electrical Design Engineer on the Spacecraft Bus Avionics team, you will drive requirements, design, analysis, test, and critical review of avionics hardware. You will own end-to-end product development from concept through formal qualification and verification, including integration and flight support activities.
Your Responsibilities
- Own end-to-end product development for space-rated components
- Provide leadership as a member of a cross-disciplinary team in a fast-paced design environment
- Participate in the entire design cycle of flight and mission-critical avionics
- Collaborate with customers and stakeholders to define requirements and design architecture
- Incorporate printed circuit board interconnect systems, signal integrity and power integrity analyses
- Lead design trade studies
- Design avionics solutions for performance and high reliability in harsh environments
- Create mechanical interface definitions, specifications, and control documents
- Plan and conduct engineering tests and data reviews
- Create and deliver presentations, proposals, and training material on technical subjects
- Review assembly instructions and support hardware builds
- Validate requirements through design, test, analysis, and inspection
- Support Production and Quality Engineering, including material defect disposition
- Manage product design configuration revisions through the product lifecycle
- Mentor and train junior engineers
- Review and approve designs and documentation created by other team members
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or closely related field
- 7 or more years of hands-on experience designing ruggedized electronic components or high-performance, high-reliability hardware
- End-to-end product development experience for a space-rated component, from requirements definition through qualification and production release
- Demonstrated experience designing hardware for radiation environments, including EEE parts selection and qualification for space applications
- Experience integrating complex optoelectronic and electromechanical components into flight hardware assemblies
- Strong digital design experience, including FPGAs, CMOS sensors, and DDR memory
- Hands-on PCB design experience using Altium Designer, including multi-laminate stack-ups, impedance-controlled nets, FPGA integration, and EMI/EMC mitigation strategies for flight hardware
- Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum
Preferred Qualifications
- Graduate degree in Electrical Engineering or related technical field
- Experience leading complex spaceflight avionics programs, including hardware, firmware, and software integration
- Experience performing worst-case circuit analysis, circuit FEA, and FMEA/FMECA for high-reliability applications
- Background in fault detection, redundancy strategies, and system-level reliability modeling
- Proficiency with scripting, programming, and analysis tools including Python, C, C++, MATLAB, and Linux/Windows shell scripting
- Experience managing and mentoring engineering teams, including performance development, technical guidance, and cross-functional coordination
- Ability to work independently and drive progress on rapid development programs with aggressive schedules
Compensation and Benefits
Base Pay Range for WA applicants: $156,802.00 to $219,522.45 (other site ranges may differ)
