Blue Origin is developing TeraWave, a multi-orbit satellite communications network delivering symmetrical data speeds up to 6 Tbps. The constellation consists of optically interconnected satellites in low Earth orbit (LEO) and medium Earth orbit (MEO), providing enterprise-grade connectivity worldwide.

Your Role

As Senior Electrical Engineer on the Spacecraft Bus Avionics team, you will own end-to-end product development for space-rated power components. You will drive requirements, design, analysis, test, and critical review of avionics hardware. This is a leadership role requiring expertise in schematic and circuit design for the TeraWave satellite system from concept through formal qualification, verification, integration, and flight support.

Responsibilities

• Own end-to-end product development for a space-rated component
• Provide leadership as a member of a cross-disciplinary team in a fast-paced design environment
• Participate in the entire design cycle of flight and mission-critical avionics
• Collaborate with customers and stakeholders to define requirements and design architecture
• Collaborate with the electrical engineering team on printed circuit board interconnect systems and power integrity analyses
• Develop and implement controller algorithms to optimize converter performance and efficiency
• Design avionics solutions for performance and high reliability in harsh environments
• Create mechanical interface definitions, specifications, and control documents
• Plan and conduct engineering tests and data reviews
• Create and deliver presentations, proposals, and training material on technical subjects
• Review assembly instructions and support hardware builds
• Validate requirements through design, test, analysis, and inspection
• Support Production and Quality Engineering, including dispositioning material defects
• Manage product design configuration revisions through the product lifecycle
• Mentor and train junior engineers
• Review and approve designs and documentation created by other team members

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or closely related field
• 7+ years hands-on experience designing ruggedized electronic components or high-performance, high-reliability hardware
• 7+ years hands-on experience designing, testing, and debugging switching DC/DC power supplies, including component selection, schematic capture, and PCB layout
• End-to-end product development experience for a space-rated component, from requirements definition through qualification and production release
• Demonstrated experience with board bring-up, manufacturing support, and initial hardware validation
• Experience designing hardware for radiation environments, including EEE parts selection and qualification for space applications
• Experience in digital design, including FPGAs, CMOS sensors, DDR memory, and supporting DC/DC converter design
• Hands-on PCB design experience using Altium Designer, including multi-laminate stack-ups, impedance-controlled nets, FPGA integration, and EMI/EMC mitigation strategies for flight hardware
• Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum

Preferred Qualifications

• Graduate degree in Electrical Engineering or related technical field
• Experience leading complex spaceflight avionics programs, including hardware, firmware, and software integration
• Experience with power architecture definition and load analysis supporting complex digital electronics systems
• Experience performing worst-case circuit analysis, circuit FEA, and FMEA/FMECA for high-reliability applications
• Background in fault detection, redundancy strategies, and system-level reliability modeling
• Proficiency with scripting, programming, and analysis tools including Python, C, C++, MATLAB, and Linux/Windows shell scripting
• Experience managing and mentoring engineering teams, including performance development, technical guidance, and cross-functional coordination
• Ability to work independently and drive progress on rapid development programs with aggressive schedules

Compensation

Base pay range varies by location:

• CA applicants: $156,802.00 - $219,522.45
• CO applicants: $144,179.00 - $201,849.90
• WA applicants: $156,802.00 - $219,522.45
