Position Summary

Blue Origin is seeking a Senior Facilities Design Electrical Engineer to lead the electrical design of complex, high-performance facilities supporting launch, manufacturing, test, and office operations. You will serve as a subject matter expert and technical lead on capital projects ranging from new construction to major renovations. These facilities present unique electrical design challenges including high-power distribution, precision manufacturing environments, propulsion test support infrastructure, and mission-critical systems.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage electrical design for large-scale aerospace and manufacturing facilities including power distribution, lighting, grounding, fire alarm, and low-voltage systems
  • Develop and review design drawings, specifications, calculations, and engineering deliverables to ensure compliance with NEC, NFPA, IBC, IFC and applicable codes
  • Serve as Engineer of Record (EOR) for electrical systems on applicable projects
  • Apply in-depth knowledge of aerospace manufacturing, propulsion test, and launch support facilities, including high-power feeds, sensitive equipment grounding, and classified/hazardous area design
  • Coordinate with architects, civil, structural, mechanical, and process engineers on integrated facility designs
  • Manage and review work performed by external design consultants and contractors
  • Conduct site surveys, field inspections, and construction administration including RFI and submittal reviews
  • Develop and maintain electrical design standards, guidelines, and best practices for Blue Origin facilities
  • Perform load calculations, short circuit analysis, arc flash studies, and voltage drop analysis
  • Support commissioning activities and coordinate with operations teams for system startup and turnover
  • Identify opportunities to improve energy efficiency, reliability, and sustainability in facility designs
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior engineers and design staff
  • Partner with Project Managers to support project scheduling, budgeting, and scope development

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution
  • Active Professional Engineering (PE) license in Electrical Engineering
  • 10 or more years of progressive electrical design experience, with focus on facilities/building systems
  • Demonstrated experience as Engineer of Record on medium to large-scale facilities projects
  • Proven experience designing electrical systems for large, complex aerospace, defense, or advanced manufacturing facilities, including high-bay production spaces, propulsion or mechanical test facilities, or similar mission-critical environments
  • Proficiency in electrical design software such as AutoCAD, Revit MEP, SKM PowerTools, ETAP, or similar
  • Strong working knowledge of NEC, NFPA 70E, NFPA 101, IBC, and relevant local codes
  • Experience with medium-voltage power distribution systems (up to 35kV)
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with ability to present technical information to diverse audiences

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
  • PE license in multiple states
  • 5 or more years of direct experience supporting electrical design for aerospace vehicle manufacturing, rocket propulsion test stands, launch complexes, or similarly complex industrial facilities
  • Experience designing electrical systems for high-bay manufacturing environments, including overhead crane power systems, large process equipment feeds, and facility-wide power monitoring
  • Familiarity with hazardous location (classified area) design per NEC Article 500/505
  • Experience with large medium-voltage switchgear, unit substations, and campus-level electrical distribution infrastructure
  • Experience with energy modeling, LEED certification, or sustainability initiatives
  • Experience with BIM/3D design workflows and model coordination

Working Conditions

  • Ability to work in both office and active construction/industrial environments
  • Occasional travel to Blue Origin sites may be required (up to 25%)
  • Must be able to stand, walk, and navigate active construction sites

Compensation

Base pay range for WA applicants: $145,188.00 - $203,263.20. Other site ranges may differ.
