Senior Liaison Engineer, Fluid Systems Verified today

Blue Origin · Space Coast, FL · Propulsion · first seen 2026-10-09

About the role

This position supports the development and operations of New Glenn, a heavy-lift orbital launch vehicle designed to carry people and payloads to low-Earth orbit, geostationary transfer orbit, cislunar, and beyond. Its first stage is fully reusable and human-capable.

You will provide on-the-floor engineering support, own resolution of build issues, and drive continuous improvement across the production system. You will leverage your fluid systems and manufacturing knowledge to protect configuration, improve yield and flow, and ensure hardware readiness for test and flight.

What you will do

  • Serve as the primary engineering liaison between GS2 Fluids design and production for plumbing, valves, feed systems, pressurization, and pneumatics, coordinating across design, manufacturing, quality, test, and operations.
  • Own Material Review Board (MRB) disposition of nonconformances and production issues for GS2 Fluids hardware in partnership with responsible design engineers.
  • Lead triage, root cause analysis, and corrective actions for build issues, escapes, and test anomalies affecting GS2 Fluids Systems.
  • Support daily production operations: respond to line stop issues, triage defects, review test data, and clear blockers while protecting safety and quality.
  • Coordinate with design owners to implement Engineering Change Requests (ECRs/ECOs) for GS2 Fluids components and routings; provide feedback to improve drawings, models, instructions, and specifications.
  • Analyze and monitor production defects and test escapes to identify trends and drive systemic improvements to reduce rework, scrap, cycle time, and risk.
  • Provide onsite engineering support during critical operations such as leak checks, pressure tests, propellant handling interfaces, vehicle integration, and stage-level testing.
  • Partner with Supply Chain and suppliers on build issues, hardware deviations, and qualification/acceptance test gaps for valves, regulators, lines, and other fluid components.
  • Contribute to design-for-manufacture and design-for-test feedback for future GS2 Fluids iterations and rate-readiness campaigns.
  • Support readiness reviews, RCCAs, and anomaly boards by preparing and presenting clear technical content related to GS2 Fluids and systems.
  • Author and maintain risk assessments, production readiness reviews, and build/test redlines to ensure configuration control and compliance with safety and quality requirements.
  • Provide day-to-day technical guidance to junior engineers and technicians on build intent, inspection criteria, and acceptable conditions.

Minimum qualifications

  • B.S. in Mechanical, Aerospace, or related engineering field.
  • 8+ years of relevant experience in production, manufacturing, test, or development of fluid systems (aerospace, automotive, energy, or similar).
  • Hands-on experience supporting hardware on the shop floor and resolving non-conformances, preferably for complex assemblies.
  • Familiarity with pressure systems, leak/pressure testing, and cleanliness requirements for flight or safety-critical hardware.
  • Experience with CAD and PDM/PLM tools (e.g. CREO, Windchill) and enterprise tracking tools (e.g., Jira, MES/MRP).
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and test procedures and translate them into clear production instructions.
  • Demonstrated ability to disposition nonconformances and repairs in a fast-paced production environment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and experience leading cross-functional root cause and corrective action efforts.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally with technicians, engineers, and leadership.
  • Ability to work full-time on site and support off-shift or weekend coverage as required by production needs.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience supporting integrated stage or large aerospace vehicle production (launch vehicles, spacecraft, or aircraft).
  • Direct experience with cryogenic and high-pressure gas systems, including oxygen, hydrogen, methane, or helium.
  • Background in structured problem solving (e.g., 8D, RCCA, FMEA, fault tree) and use of production metrics to drive improvement.
  • Prior liaison, MRB, or production support engineering role working daily with manufacturing and test operations.
  • Experience in a fast-paced development or rate-transition environment, balancing design intent with production realities.

Work schedule

This is a rotational position. You will rotate between A-shift (Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm, 40 hours per week) and C-shift (Friday to Sunday, 7am to 7pm, 36 hours per week) on a scheduled basis every 3 or 6 months, depending on operational requirements and in coordination with you.
