The Role

Blue Origin is constructing a new marine vessel purpose-built for at-sea recovery and return of orbital-class rocket boosters. This is a from-the-keel-up new build. You will develop, execute, and support electrical systems for a fleet of marine assets that enable this mission-critical recovery operation.

Working alongside the Recovery Offshore Operations Engineer, Technical Lead (Naval Architect), and Project Construction Managers, you will own electrical systems engineering and maintenance across high-volume Blue Origin assets and facilities. Your responsibilities span requirements development, technical trade studies, risk management, build execution, verification planning, and testing. You will coordinate with marine teams, interface with program management, and mentor less experienced engineers and operators.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and engineer marine electrical systems for new vessel construction and fleet sustainment
  • Develop and manage preventive maintenance plans and procedures for critical electrical systems
  • Coordinate and oversee contractors performing build execution and maintenance on marine vessel electrical systems
  • Troubleshoot problems, diagnose faults, recommend repairs, and develop repair scopes
  • Improve system design to mitigate repetitive failures and increase reliability
  • Develop drawings and specifications for vessel repairs and modifications
  • Perform work in compliance with CFRs, United States Coast Guard Standards, American Bureau of Shipping Guidelines, National Electrical Code, and applicable marine standards
  • Read and assess blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings to ensure maintenance and installation meet best practices
  • Identify and maintain critical spare parts inventories for electrical systems
  • Coordinate with management, engineering, vendors, and business partners on equipment design requirements, maintenance scheduling, and risk mitigation
  • Coach and mentor engineers and technicians on electrical matters
  • Support integration of recovery-specific electrical loads and systems with the Recovery Offshore Operations Engineer
  • Provide electrical engineering guidance to Project Construction Managers during shipyard construction

Minimum Qualifications

  • B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Minimum 5 years of experience with complex electrical design, operations, and maintenance
  • Recent facility development or management experience supporting mission-critical operations
  • Experience in subcontract management including requests for proposal, specifications, and statements of work
  • Strong project management, budget management, and team leadership skills
  • Demonstrated project planning, schedule development, and cost estimation capabilities
  • Experience meeting ambitious deadlines by prioritizing concurrent tasks, developing work plans, and fostering communication across staff, vendors, and managers
  • Strong safety mindset with hands-on experience planning and conducting hazardous or critical operations

Desired Qualifications

  • Florida Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) or ability to obtain FL PE certification promptly
  • System safety analysis experience including FMECA, Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), and Functional Hazard Analysis (FHA)
  • Experience with failure investigations
  • Experience supporting proposal evaluations
  • Knowledge of systems engineering practices, manufacturing, fabrication, assembly, and quality control
  • Experience with shipyard electrical installation and commissioning
  • Familiarity with ABS and USCG electrical classification requirements for new construction

Travel and Relocation

  • Ability to relocate to Cape Canaveral, Florida
  • 40-60% job-related travel, including shipyard locations
  • International travel may be required
