Senior Mechanical Designer – Lunar Permanence Verified today

Role Overview

This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Origin's Blue Moon landers and related products. You will assist in the creation, maintenance, and release of avionics part, assembly, and install CAD models for the Transfer Stage Vehicle. You will play a key role in developing the Lunar Transportation system that will return humans to the Moon and extend human presence permanently beyond the bounds of Earth.

Responsibilities

• Prepare design layouts, create detail part, assembly, and install models, and release data sets using CAD and Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) tools.
• Apply company design, drafting, and parts techniques to plan, layout, and maintain engineering designs (detail, assembly and installation drawings or MBDs).
• Interface with other vehicle subsystem teams to create and place avionics boxes in the vehicle model.
• Review engineering drawings and designs to ensure alignment to established specifications and standards.
• Implement engineering and manufacturing standard methodologies to achieve a balanced approach to cost, schedule and performance requirements.

Minimum Qualifications

• Associate degree in Computer Aided Drafting & Design.
• 4 or more years of experience in aerospace development or similar industry.
• Proficiency in model generation and release processes using Creo Parametric and Windchill.
• Proficiency in standard fits, tolerance stacks, and GD&T analysis (ASME Y14.5).
• Experience managing large CAD assemblies, BOMs, ICMs, and skeletons.
• Experience in designing spacecraft avionics parts and assemblies.
• Experience working in a cross-functional team responsible for selecting materials, manufacturing processes, and developing the design to produce world-class engineered products.
• Excellent attention to detail and task ownership, someone who demonstrates pride in all work and willingness to perform low-level tasks when needed.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or equivalent.
• 7 years or greater proven experience.
• Experience releasing engineering data sets using Model Based Definition.
• Experience designing for manufacturability.

Compensation

Base pay range varies by location: CA and WA applicants $47.01 - $65.81 per hour; CO applicants $43.23 - $60.52 per hour. Other site ranges may differ.
