Senior Power System Engineer Verified today
About the Role
You'll design, analyze, and architect power systems across Blue Origin's space portfolio, from launch vehicles to orbital platforms to lunar surface assets. Working within Advanced Concepts and Enterprise Engineering (ACE), you'll own power system design at both system and subsystem levels in a fast-paced, data-driven environment.
What You'll Do
- Lead power system architecture and design for spacecraft, launch vehicles, and surface assets
- Perform system-level trades and detailed subsystem analysis (solar arrays, batteries, power electronics, distribution, harnesses)
- Define requirements, interfaces, and verification approaches for power systems
- Analyze failure modes, develop fault tolerance strategies, and design for reliability in harsh environments
- Support integration, test, and anomaly resolution through flight operations
- Collaborate with thermal, avionics, structures, and mission design teams to optimize integrated vehicle performance
What We're Looking For
- 8+ years of experience in aerospace power systems engineering
- Deep technical knowledge of space power architectures: solar arrays, Li-ion batteries, fuel cells, RTGs, power electronics, and distribution systems
- Strong understanding of how space power systems fail and how to prevent it (radiation effects, thermal cycling, single-point failures, degradation mechanisms)
- Experience with both system-level engineering (requirements, budgets, trades) and hands-on subsystem work (analysis, component selection, test)
- Proficiency in power system modeling and simulation tools
- Creative problem-solver who thrives on hard technical challenges
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with lunar or planetary surface power systems
- Background in launch vehicle power systems
- Familiarity with human-rated systems and NASA/DoD standards
- MS or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related field
Compensation
Base pay range for WA applicants: $156,802.00 to $219,522.45 annually. Other site ranges may differ.
Benefits
- Medical, dental, vision, basic and supplemental life insurance
- Paid parental leave
- Short and long-term disability
- 401(k) with company match up to 5%
- Education Support Program
- Stock options for all regular employees (20+ hours/week)
- Paid time off: up to four weeks per year and 14 company-paid holidays
- Eligibility for bonuses based on individual contributions and company performance
Employment Requirements
Applicants must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
Background check required for all positions. Additional background checks, including DBIDS, may be required depending on role and location.
