Simulation Software Engineer, RF & DSP - Terawave Verified today
About TeraWave
Blue Origin is pioneering space-based communications with TeraWave, a revolutionary satellite communications network delivering symmetrical data speeds of up to 6 Tbps anywhere on Earth. This multi-orbit constellation consists of optically interconnected satellites in low Earth orbit (LEO) and medium Earth orbit (MEO).
The Role
Join the Silicon System team as a Simulation Software Engineer. You will work closely with RF system and DSP engineers to optimize simulation models for silicon-based components and phased array antenna systems. Your work will directly impact the performance, accuracy, and scalability of the simulation infrastructure.
Your Responsibilities
- Optimize existing MATLAB, Python, and C++ simulation models for phased array antenna systems to reduce memory footprint and simulation runtime
- Profile and benchmark simulation code to identify performance bottlenecks and implement targeted improvements
- Refactor legacy MATLAB scripts into efficient, modular, and maintainable codebases
- Implement high-performance C++ algorithms for computationally intensive antenna and silicon modeling tasks
- Collaborate with RF and DSP engineers to understand physical models and ensure optimization does not compromise simulation fidelity
- Develop and maintain unit and integration tests to validate model accuracy before and after optimization
- Explore and integrate techniques including parallel computing (MATLAB Parallel Computing Toolbox, OpenMP, MPI), memory management and data structure optimization, algorithmic complexity reduction, and MEX file development for MATLAB/C++ integration
- Document optimization strategies, methodologies, and results clearly
- Support continuous integration pipelines for simulation model validation
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or related field
- 3+ years of experience in software engineering with MATLAB, Python, and C++
- Demonstrated experience profiling and optimizing computational code for speed and memory efficiency
- Strong understanding of data structures, algorithms, and memory management
- Familiarity with numerical methods and scientific computing
- Experience with version control systems (Git)
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Applied Math, or related field
- Experience with phased array antenna systems, RF simulation, or electromagnetic modeling
- Knowledge of silicon RFIC and DSP design or related hardware simulation
- Experience with MATLAB MEX files and MATLAB/C++ co-development
- Experience with parallel and distributed computing frameworks
- Background in signal processing or beamforming algorithms
- Experience working in aerospace, defense, or satellite communications environments
