Join Blue Origin's In-Space Systems business unit to address critical challenges in space infrastructure and on-orbit mobility. As Spacecraft Data Systems Engineer, you will be the technical bridge connecting flight software, spacecraft systems, ground operations, and test engineering.

What you will do

  • Lead development of the Command and Telemetry Database (CTDB) and Parameter Database; define file management and onboard data storage
  • Manage data for spacecraft uplink, onboard command sequences, telemetry downlink, and data prioritization within flight software and memory management
  • Define data architecture strategies that allocate data placement between CTDB and Parameter databases
  • Develop a roadmap for scalable, robust data architecture across a fleet of vehicles, anticipating future payloads and missions
  • Shape program data handling across payload, spacecraft, and operations using sophisticated techniques and processes
  • Work closely with spacecraft engineers, flight software developers, spaceflight operations, and test teams to implement all data architecture use cases
  • Detail data architecture, develop standards and processes, and ensure sufficiency of data products

Minimum Qualifications

  • B.S. in computer science, computer engineering, information technology, applied mathematics, or related field
  • 8+ years of experience in spacecraft development and operations
  • Proven experience developing and managing Command and Telemetry Databases (CTDB) with proficiency in spacecraft telemetry, data management, and command sequencing
  • Familiarity with spacecraft flight software design and architecture
  • Experience with CCSDS standards, including command and telemetry formats
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Java, Python, JavaScript, C, or C++, with proven background in software development and automation for data solutions
  • Experience with Command and Control (C2) or Flight Software (FSW) software tools
  • Ability to engage effectively with Integration & Test, Ground and Spaceflight Operations, and Systems Engineering teams
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted as a refugee or granted asylum

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with Agile methodologies and modern software development practices
  • Proficiency in AI and machine learning techniques for data processing
  • Experience with data governance, security standards, and compliance methodologies
  • Deep CCSDS experience, understanding the full OSI stack across application and data layers
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate complex data and software architecture concepts to IPT leads, executives, and customers
  • Domain expertise of spacecraft system and subsystem functions, interfaces, and communication protocols (serial, 1553, Ethernet, embedded software)
  • Demonstrated experience debugging and identifying root cause at the hardware/software boundary
  • Experience using hardware testbeds and lab environments for software and system verification
  • Understanding of cloud infrastructure for data deployment and orchestration
  • Experience with Jira, GitLab, CI/CD pipelines
  • Active TS/SCI clearance

Compensation

Base Pay Range varies by location:

  • CA, WA, VA applicants: $145,188.00 - $203,263.20
  • CO applicants: $133,500.00 - $186,898.95
  • Other site ranges may differ
