The Role
Join our Automation Team as a Senior AI/ML Operations Engineer. You will apply deep software development expertise and manufacturing systems knowledge to embed machine learning into our automation products. This role bridges software engineering and industrial automation hardware to unlock AI's potential in next-generation manufacturing.
Your Responsibilities
- Work directly with automation engineering teams to develop deployment strategies for machine learning models into production automation products
- Complete operational aspects of AI and machine learning projects, ensuring robust and scalable deployment
- Build and maintain infrastructure for efficient data processing, model training, and inference at scale
- Set up and manage monitoring systems for performance, reliability, and scalability of AI/ML models in production
- Automate the end-to-end machine learning pipeline: data collection, preprocessing, model training, deployment, and monitoring
- Work closely with data scientists, data engineers, and software engineers to streamline development-to-production workflows
- Ensure AI/ML systems comply with security standards and best practices for data privacy and protection
- Conduct performance tuning, troubleshooting, and optimization of models to improve efficiency and reduce latency
- Evaluate, select, and integrate tools and frameworks for model training, deployment, and monitoring (MLflow, Kubeflow, TensorFlow Extended)
- Maintain comprehensive documentation of processes, configurations, and performance metrics
- Foster continual improvement by staying current with AI/ML Ops advancements and implementing best practices
- Develop and implement incident response plans to address deployed model issues promptly
- Plan and implement strategies for scaling AI/ML models to handle increased demand and larger datasets
- Propose new AI/ML solutions to address business challenges and improve operational efficiency
- Work with cross-functional teams to incorporate AI/ML insights into business strategies and processes
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field
- 8+ years of professional software development experience with significant focus on real-world machine learning deployments using vision and/or time-series data
- Extensive experience with AI and machine learning tools and frameworks such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, or similar
- Familiarity with manufacturing automation including robotics, PLCs, automated NDT, and machine vision
- Experience with AI edge deployments and integration into OT devices (e.g. Simatic NPU)
- Experience with serverless computing frameworks and technologies
- Familiarity with agile and scrum software development environments
- Experience with database management systems, both SQL and NoSQL (PostgreSQL, MongoDB)
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for documentation and cross-team collaboration
- Ability to innovate and adapt to rapidly changing technologies and environments

Employment Details
Location: Bay Area, CA
Base Pay Range: $197,529.00 to $276,539.55 annually (CA applicants; other site ranges may differ)
Employment Type: Full-time
