About this role

As Senior Electrical Engineer in the Blue Origin Engines business unit, you deliver end-to-end electrical engineering solutions across design, integration, installation, refurbishment, maintenance, and operations. You work with no oversight, develop advanced solutions to complex problems, serve as prime technical contact for electrical scope across multiple organizations, and provide technical leadership and mentorship to your team. You own electrical technical approval authority for your scope and drive the processes, standards, and best practices for successful integration.

Key responsibilities

  • Own design, analysis, and implementation of electrical solutions spanning motor systems, instrumentation, and controls, including architecture and requirements decomposition
  • Serve as technical lead for electrical scope on a small team, determining methods and procedures on new assignments and making trade-offs between architecture choices
  • Act as prime technical contact with operations, manufacturing, test, facilities, safety, and external partners to negotiate requirements and align on solutions
  • Review technical work of others, detect flaws, provide design improvements, and mentor engineers and technicians on design release and turnover
  • Lead anomaly investigations, failure investigations, and root-cause analyses on complex electrical and electromechanical failures; own recovery and corrective-action plans
  • Provide senior engineering leadership across safety and failure-effects analysis, systems engineering, configuration management, quality, and process development
  • Own schedule, budget, and milestones for assigned electrical scope; identify and communicate technical, cost, and schedule risk
  • Own process and standards improvements and lead tool development that improves efficiency and reduces error rates in electrical design, installation, and verification
  • Own preventative and corrective maintenance strategy for electrical systems, including obsolescence planning and critical spare parts procurement
  • Architect, configure, and support networking infrastructure supporting controls and instrumentation
  • Set and enforce safe-work practices including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), de-energization, and arc-flash controls
  • Design, evaluate, and approve electrical systems for hazardous (classified) locations
  • Champion and deploy AI-enabled engineering tools to improve analysis, documentation, and design efficiency
  • Contribute to strategic initiatives, technology maturation, and capture of best practices at the business level
  • Document designs, analyses, and decisions to support traceability and configuration control

Minimum qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline
  • 8+ years of relevant electrical engineering experience
  • Demonstrated ownership of electrical design and integration through the full lifecycle with no oversight
  • Experience with low-voltage and medium-voltage systems, including performing, specifying, and adjudicating analyses and studies (load flow, short circuit, coordination, arc flash)
  • Experience designing and commissioning instrumentation and controls, including hardware such as Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs)
  • Demonstrated experience leading root-cause investigations of complex electrical and electromechanical failures and driving corrective actions to closure
  • Hands-on experience with preventative and corrective maintenance and troubleshooting
  • Working knowledge of relevant codes and standards (NEC, NFPA 70E) and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) and de-energization practices
  • Demonstrated experience working in dynamic, high-energy operational environments
  • Experience mentoring engineers and/or technicians and reviewing the technical work of others
  • Excellent verbal, written, and graphical communication skills, including presenting technical rationale and risk trade-offs to senior leaders
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment
  • Proficiency using AI tools in an engineering workflow
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum

Preferred qualifications

  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license
  • Experience designing for and approving work in hazardous (classified) areas (e.g., Class I, Division 2)
  • Experience leading formal failure investigation teams
  • Experience developing or owning systems engineering, configuration management, or quality processes
  • Experience authoring work instructions and developing/deploying new processes at the team or department level
  • Experience architecting industrial/controls networking systems
  • Deep experience with PLC/controls platforms and SCADA/HMI
  • Experience serving as prime technical interface to external entities
