About the Role

You will join the System Definition and Certification team for Blue Origin's Lunar Human Landing System (HLS), the lander designed to carry astronauts to the lunar surface and return them safely to Orion. As a Senior Systems Engineer and Responsible Engineer, you will own requirements, safety, and verification across a major vehicle area or inter-element seams, setting technical direction and mentoring engineers around you.

What You Will Own

  • Requirements analysis, decomposition, and allocation; shape architecture decisions that flow from them
  • Verification and validation approach for your area; lead anomaly investigations, root-cause analysis, and recovery
  • Risk-based standards for how variances and deviations are dispositioned in your area
  • Lean, tool-driven processes for requirements, safety, and V&V; earn adoption across teams and design IPTs
  • Technical interface across IPTs, and as needed with customer and partners
  • Review of deliverables from others for subtle flaws and gaps
  • Technical mentoring and direction setting for your scope

Minimum Qualifications

  • B.S. in aerospace, systems, or related engineering field (M.S. preferred)
  • 8+ years of relevant systems engineering experience with demonstrated ownership across requirements, system safety, and V&V
  • Demonstrated experience owning a major technical area or seams between areas as a Responsible Engineer, largely without oversight
  • Track record of leading anomaly investigations, root-cause analysis, and corrective action on high-consequence issues
  • Demonstrated ability to develop lean engineering processes and earn their adoption without relying on direct authority
  • Deep fluency with SE tooling (Jama, Cameo, Windchill, DOORS) and judgment to drive tool decisions that reduce manual effort
  • Demonstrated technical mentoring and ability to set technical direction for a scope
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in an engineering or technical discipline
  • Human spaceflight, crewed vehicle, launch vehicle, or other complex integrated-system experience
  • Experience from safety-critical or regulated industry (medical devices, commercial aviation, nuclear, automotive) owning requirements, verification, or safety baseline for a major product area
  • Customer-facing technical interface experience (NASA or comparable government/prime customer) on requirements, verification, or system safety
  • History of introducing tools or methods adopted at scale that measurably cut cycle time or error rate
  • Experience across multiple lifecycle phases (design through operations) and familiarity with certification processes

Location and Travel

4 locations available. Relocation provided. Travel expected up to 25% of the time to support cross-site and partner coordination.

Compensation

Base pay range varies by location: CA $145,188-$203,263; CO $133,500-$186,899; WA $145,188-$203,263. Other site ranges may differ.
